Responsibilities

• Prepares parts for powder coating by performing tasks such as sandblasting, rust removal, oil removal, and ensuring overall cleanliness.
• Demonstrates knowledge of proper hanging techniques, including the correct angle for pretreatment chemical drainage, ergonomic application, optimal hanging rack density, and accurate conveyor line loading.
• Assists in developing and documenting the best hanging techniques for specific parts.
• Qualifies processed parts by applying a basic understanding of chemical pretreatment.
• Operates, monitors, and sets up all application and support equipment to ensure consistent quality and achieve efficiency goals.
• Completes preventative maintenance and housekeeping tasks on time, following proper shop practices and procedures.
• Operates powder application equipment, including electrostatic guns, feed hoppers, and powder reclaim systems.
• Applies powder paint to metal surfaces, such as steel, aluminum, and other coated or uncoated metals, as well as finished hardware, accessories, and other specified surfaces.
• Understands the powder curing process based on metal thickness and oven exposure time.
• Conducts periodic oven / part temperature analysis using chart recorder readings.
• Inspects and qualifies parts to meet established quality standards, ensuring proper mil thickness, texture, coverage, and adhesion (crosshatching to ASTM standards), and guides others in this process.
• Adheres to all safety guidelines related to personal protective equipment, work practices, and housekeeping.
• Follows OSHA guidelines for required PPE.
• Adheres to established Lockout / Tagout (LOTO) guidelines.
• Complies with ISO policies and procedures.
• Is willing to instruct others on proper coating techniques.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

High School Diploma or GED.

Experience

• Over 2 years of experience in powder coating.
• Experience working in powder coating environments.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

• Proficient understanding of the powder coating process, including electrostatics and related application equipment.
• Demonstrates knowledge of proper equipment settings and the ability to troubleshoot basic equipment and quality issues.
• Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
• Exhibits strong attention to detail to ensure company quality standards are met.
• Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
