Overview:
Mead & Hunt, a nationally recognized professional services consulting firm, has a Senior Community Planner position available to lead diverse transportation and land use projects in our Community Planning Department. This position is located in our Mid-Atlantic region, working out of our Raleigh, NC or Columbia, MD office locations.
Responsibilities:
Work on a wide variety of projects such as, comprehensive plans for counties and municipalities, land use/ small area plans, zoning ordinance, site plan reviews, recreational park planning, historic preservation, economic revitalization, urban/community design, resiliency/ sustainability/ green infrastructure, school transportation plans, grant applications and reporting, complete streets/bicycle and pedestrian plans, parking/ transportation demand management, fiscal impact analysis, stakeholder facilitation/ visioning and commissioner/ elected official presentations.
Responsibilities include:
- Research and analysis on transportation, land use, and urban/community planning and policy issues and trends
- Creating business analysis and outlining problems
- Identifying opportunities and solutions for transportation challenges
- Technical writing and report preparation
- Developing briefing and presentation materials
- Coordinating with local and state agencies
- Facilitating stakeholder participation
Occasional travel will be required for client meetings, field visits, and public engagement.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have the following:
- A bachelors degree (or higher) in urban planning or related field
- At least ten years of relevant planning experience
- Valid drivers license, with a positive driving record
The ideal candidate will have any/all of the following:
- AICP Certification is strongly preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, ArcGIS, Microsoft BI and/or other data analysis and visualization tools
- Zoning and code writing experience
- Project management experience for planning related studies, and task management for planning related topics on large multi-disciplinary projects
- Experience leading or participating in complex planning studies related to land use, urban design, parks and recreation, transportation, equity, environmental justice, sustainability, resiliency, and economic development
- Experience preparing documents or overseeing technical staff conducting planning efforts such as Safe Routes to School plans, ADA transition plans, comprehensive plans, small area plans, community master plans, campus master plans, hazard mitigation plans, climate action plans, urban design concepts, corridor studies, PEL and NEPA documents, socioeconomic analyses, indirect and cumulative effects analyses, community impact statements, zoning ordinances, grant applications, grant reporting, and technical reports
- Ability to engage with public and agency stakeholders and developing stakeholder engagement materials such as public involvement plans, agency coordination plans, presentation materials, website content, surveys, fact sheets, and documenting Title VI compliance
- Interfacing with clients to coordinate project scope, schedule, progress, deliverables, action items, risk management, and quality assurance
- Lead and support business development including identification and tracking new business opportunities, meeting with potential clients, preparing marketing materials, and developing proposal narratives and fee estimates
