Ravenscroft is an independent, coeducational day school in Raleigh, NC, with approximately 1,250 students in grades PreK-12.

As a Middle School Science Teacher at Ravenscroft, here is what you get to do:

The experienced teacher should bring energy and curriculum development skills to the science department by being able to teach effectively and passionately. Other responsibilities and necessary competencies include the following:

• Teaching 4 sections of sixth grade science and an additional section of either an elective or study hall, depending on the needs of the school and the candidate’s experience
• Collaborating with sixth grade colleagues to plan and coordinate all content, activities, and grading for the general science curriculum that includes introductions to the scientific method, microscopes and cells, matter and energy, chemistry, and cycles of the Earth
• Understanding the development of Middle School students and possessing a passion for working with this age group
• Facilitating inquiry-based classes that focus on the process of science, rather than memorization
• Differentiating curriculum to support the needs of all learners (e.g., scaffolding and/or extending the content when appropriate)
• Advising 12-14 students and facilitating the Lead from Here curriculum; meeting with parents of advisees
• Demonstrating cultural competence and the ability to connect with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff, and parents
• Having experience supporting social emotional learning inside and outside of the classroom; an eagerness and ability to support our Lead From Here curriculum
• Demonstrating a growth mindset, the ability to give and receive feedback, and willingness to become a valued colleague in a strong and cohesive community
• Interacting effectively with parents, colleagues, and members of the leadership team
• Demonstrating effective technology skills, including the ability to use Ravenscroft’s learning management systems (Canvas and Veracross)
• Participating in other aspects of the School community (e.g., coaching, committees, etc.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Science or Middle School Science Education; Master’s degree highly desirable; experience teaching science required.
