**Location**

**Duties**

The purpose of the position is to utilize the knowledge and application of painter trade practices.

Being a Coast Guard Civilian makes you a valuable member for the Coast Guard team.

Typical work assignments include:

-Preparing metal surfaces for coating by dry and wet abrasive blasting, grinding with abrasive disks and wheels, chemical stripping methods and by pickling or through controlled oxidation.

-Preparing fiber reinforced plastic surfaces by filling, shaping and abrasive sanding.

-Preparing masonry surfaces by mechanical and abrasive blasting methods.

-Preparing wood surfaces by filling and sanding.

-Mixing and applying standard coatings such as enamels, latex emulsions, varnishes and lacquers by brush, roller, air, or airless spray methods.

-Developing coatings of proper color, texture and consistency; adjusting hue, intensity and tone to match existing color schemes.

* The position requires a valid state driver's license.

** Qualifications**

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired.

Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements:

*Ability to perform the work of the position without more than normal supervision. (SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT)

*Practices in construction, structure.

*Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).

*Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (other than blueprint reading).

*Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.

*Knowledge of Materials.

*Dexterity and Safety.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

**Education**
