The Associate Technical Writer updates existing technical documentation and information about Tyler software products, services, and policies and procedures.

The impact of this position can be substantial if the content that the Associate Technical Writer creates isn't first reviewed by more knowledgeable and experience d department staff as content is used directly by the client and helps shape the client's opinion of our products and services.

The Associate Technical Writer must be able to:
Responsibilities
- Updates existing content that can be repurposed for use as product information, online help, training materials, e-learning components, support content, proposals, policies/procedur es, and other knowledge assets.
- Works closely with the manager to plan and schedule projects and with other department staff to ensure consistent and accurate information.
- Produces content that conforms to established guidelines and best practices.
- Proofreads and copyedits content for proper use of grammar, punctuation, and style guidelines.
- Tests content for accuracy and usability.
- Assists in improving and documenting departmental processes and style guide.
- Maintains a knowledge base of accurate and approved content.
- May participate in sprint planning and/or demo sessions with Software Engineering team.
- May attend User Acceptance Testing (UAT) sessions.
- Updates intranet resources as assigned by the Manager.
- Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

The Associate Technical Writer must be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to multitask, produce quality work and work under a deadline.
- Demonstrate the ability to write basic content as well as learn and use the department software.
- Demonstrate the ability to work with other people within the company and begin to have to have k nowledge of department styles and basic industry standards.
- Follow department standards and communicat e effectively with the other members of the department as well as others outside of the d epartment.
- Demonstrate the ability to work somewhat independently and also actively participate in a team, including teams outside of the d epartment.
- Demonstrate the flexibility to adapt to an ever-changing environment and learn new concepts and software systems quickly.
- Demonstrate the ability to follow and make decisions based on established guidelines, and analyze and refine departmental processes.
- Demonstrate the ability to write content clearly and accurately with strong audience orientation.
- Complete tasks with direction from the Manager and/or other members of the department.
- Demonstrate proficient knowledge of technical writing concepts and technologies obtained through formal training and work experience.
- Demonstrate proficient knowledge of technical/business environment and business processes that are supported by the d epartment.
- Demonstrate excellent partnering and communicating in order to successfully complete projects.
- Demonstrate ability to work effectively in a strong customer service/ team oriented environment.
- Document and communicate assigned work and progress to immediate project team and management.
- Education, Experience and Special Skills
- BS/BA degree in English, Technical Writing, Communication , Journalism, or related field.
- Entry level or up to two years experience in the field or in a related area.
- Experience or education in information systems, business processes, and/or software development preferred, or two years Tyler software experience .
- Basic familiarity and understanding of Agile development.
- Strong written and verbal English language skills (grammar, syntax, usage, and style issues).
- Ability to write content clearly and accurately.
- Familiarity with the Microsoft Office and Adobe Technical Communication Suite or equivalent products required .
- Experience with other advanced word processing, e-learning, graphic production, online help authoring tools, and web applications preferred.
