Position Available: Summer Camp Counselor

Overview:

Peoria Academy is seeking enthusiastic and responsible individuals to join our team as Summer Camp Counselors. Our summer camp program offers a fun and enriching experience for children ages 5-14, providing them with a variety of activities, games, and educational opportunities. As a Camp Counselor, you will play a key role in creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where campers can learn, grow, and make lasting memories. You will also chaperone multiple field trips a week including the public pool.

Responsibilities:

• Supervision: Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers at all times. Instruction: Lead and facilitate activities, providing guidance and support to campers as they participate.
• Engagement: Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere where campers feel encouraged to participate and express themselves.
• Behavior Management: Set clear expectations for camper behavior and enforce camp rules consistently and fairly.
• Teamwork: Collaborate with fellow counselors and camp director to coordinate activities, resolve conflicts, and ensure smooth operation of the camp program.
• Communication: Communicate regularly with campers, parents, and colleagues to provide updates, share feedback, and address any concerns or issues that may arise.
• Role Model: Serve as a positive role model for campers, demonstrating respect, responsibility, and empathy in all interactions.

Qualifications:

• Experience: Previous experience working with children in a camp, school, or recreational setting is preferred but not required.
• Skills: Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills are essential. Creativity, adaptability, and a passion for working with children are highly valued.
• Certifications: CPR and First Aid certification is preferred, or willingness to obtain certification prior to the start of camp.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Pursuing or holding a degree in education, recreation, or a related field is a plus.
• Background Check: All candidates must pass a background check prior to employment.

Schedule:

Summer camp runs from June 3rd to August 9th. Summer camp runs Monday through Friday and hours are typically from 8:30 to 3:30.
