Francophone Charter School of Oakland is a French immersion charter school that opened its doors in 2015. Our mission is to provide a dual-immersion curriculum to a diverse community of students and to develop bilingual and bi-literate global citizens who are open minded and who value intellectual curiosity, personal integrity and creativity. We are a small (350 students in TK-8), tight-knit international community that is looking to expand its staff. We are in search of a joyful and kind School Counselor to join our wonderful public French immersion elementary school community at the La campus. No knowledge of French is required for the position.
Under the direct supervision of the school psychologist. Provides counseling services to students, staff and parents. Uses counseling and consultation techniques to promote student motivation and adjustment to school, community, and home environments.
Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group counseling to students in grades TK-8 to address academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student success.
- Conduct assessments to identify students' strengths and needs.
- Develop and implement comprehensive school counseling programs that promote academic achievement and personal development.
- Provide crisis intervention and support to students, staff, and families in need.
- Assist students in setting academic and career goals.
- Attend IEP, 504 Plan, and SRT Meetings as appropriate.
- Advocate for students' needs and rights within the school community.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records.
- Stay current on trends and best practices in school counseling.
- Lead and participate in professional development activities.
- Implements the philosophy, goals, policies and objectives of the school as adopted by the Board.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in school counseling or a related field/ Intern with letter from Participating Program
- PPS/School Social Work or PPS/School Counseling/ Intern with letter from Participating Program
- Experience working with children and adolescents in an educational setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of students, families, and colleagues.
- Knowledge of counseling theories and techniques.
- Understanding of child and adolescent development.
- Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards in school counseling.
- Proficiency in using technology platforms such as SEIS and G Suite for counseling and record-keeping purposes.
