Alabama State Department of Education is Hiring a Speech Language Pathologist Near Mobile, AL

POSITION TITLE: Speech/Language Pathologist
JOB GOAL: To provide a comprehensive program of speech/language services to appropriately identified students and assist them in becoming effective communicators.
REPORTS TO: Principal
SUPERVISES: N/A
Performance Responsibilities
  • Develop and write an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for every student enrolled in the speech and language program.
  • Select or prepare materials and supplies for program implementation, including therapy, classroom, and home activities.
  • Sequence activities appropriately.
  • Plan educationally relevant therapy.
  • Establish schedules for delivery of services.
  • Prepare reports and interpret state standards for program eligibility.
  • Prepare and maintain audit files on students in the speech/language program.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, organized and safe learning environment.
  • Establish and use behavior management techniques which are appropriate and effective.
  • Manage materials and equipment effectively.
  • Assist in the enforcement of school rules, administrative regulations, and School Board policies.
  • Use technology resources effectively.
  • Identify students who have speech and/or language impairments through screening and/or diagnostic assessments.
  • Determine eligibility for the speech/language program.
  • Screen students' hearing and refer for further audiological assessment when needed.
  • Reevaluate students enrolled in the speech and language program every three (3) years, or as deemed necessary by the IEP Team.
  • Assess student progress and communicate that information knowledgeably and responsibly to students, parents, and professional staff.
  • Conduct educationally relevant therapy for eligible students.
  • Implement the Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Provide teachers with strategies for classroom modifications.
  • Monitor and share results of progress toward goals with parents and teachers.
  • Provide appropriate instruction, accommodations, and modifications to students with special needs, including students who have limited proficiency in English.
  • Foster student responsibility, appropriate social behavior, valuing of cultural diversity, and respect for self and others.
  • Use appropriate materials, technology, and resources to help meet learning needs of all students.
  • Recognize overt indicators of student distress or abuse and take appropriate intervention, referral or reporting action.
  • Participate in activities to assist in suggesting interventions and selecting students for evaluation.
  • Use input from parents, teachers, and others involved with the students to develop the IEPs.
  • Consult with and serve as a resource to teachers about speech and language disorders.
  • Attend staffings and other meetings as required.
  • Provide consultation and other services as needed.
  • Participate in appropriate activities for the continuing improvement of professional knowledge and skills.
  • Keep abreast of relevant laws, rules and policies.
  • Provide training and/or information for parents, teachers, and administrators.
  • Model professional and ethical conduct at all times.
  • Perform all professional responsibilities.
  • Prepare required reports and maintain all appropriate records.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and other professional information.
  • Comply with policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Support school and System goals and priorities.
  • Ensure that student growth/achievement is continuous and appropriate for age-group and student program classification.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, collaborative relationship with students' families to increase student achievement.
  • Serve as case manager and service provider to all assigned students. Some may have disabilities other than Speech and Language Impairment.
  • Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
