About The Role
SmartThings is seeking a Senior Cloud Operations Administrator (Senior Engineer). This position has similar responsibilities to Cloud SysAdmin and is tailored for the SmartThings US organization. This unique and exciting opportunity will fill a critical platform need by providing cloud operations and platform administrative services that enable developers to perform their best work on a day-to-day basis. This is a new role for our Cloud Platform Operations group as we continue to grow our cloud footprint.
This position is a hybrid role, based onsite 3 days a week at our office in Minneapolis, MN.
Key Responsibilities
  • Curate Cloud Service Provider roles and administer user and tooling access and privilege lifecycle (e.g. granting access, revoking access, and changing privileges).
  • Automation: Cloud administrator to lead, design, develop, and implement automation processes to simplify and streamline the management of cloud-based infrastructure. Manual work should be avoided as much as possible.
  • Cloud Platform cost management: Actively monitor cost, understand how to create actionable work requests from other teams, create reports, and help maintain platform cost.
  • Cloud Infrastructure Management: Consolidate accounts and help with migration, ensure that our platform infrastructure is optimized for the public clouds we operate in, and meet the organization’s requirements.
  • Collaborate with IT Teams: Cloud administrators work closely with other IT teams, including developers, operations, and security teams. They collaborate with these teams to ensure that cloud-based infrastructure meets the organization’s requirements and can support its goals.
  • Support and manage the full SaaS vendor lifecycle, including acquisition, onboarding, usage tracking, and renewals for the SmartThings Platform.
  • Analyze, implement, and support required changes that arise from the adoption of new tooling, headquarters requests, compliance requirements, and policy changes.
  • Serve as part of an on-call rotation to support cloud incident handling when administrator permissions are required.
  • Lead projects related to cloud administration, cost management, infra optimization, and vendor management.
