The Manufacturing Supervisor plays an essential role in overseeing the daily operations of the manufacturing floor, ensuring that production targets are met efficiently and effectively. This position involves coordinating various tasks, from scheduling and resource allocation to quality control and maintenance, to ensure that the manufacturing process runs smoothly. By providing leadership and direction to the production team, the Manufacturing Supervisor ensures that the team works in a safe and productive environment, adhering to established protocols and standards. Through their efforts, they help maintain the flow of production, manage workforce issues, and contribute to the continuous improvement of processes, ultimately supporting the organization’s goals of meeting customer demands and maintaining competitive edge in the market.

Manufacturing Supervisor Job Duties

  • Oversee daily production operations, ensuring schedules are met and quality standards are maintained.
  • Implement and enforce safety policies and procedures to minimize workplace accidents and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with the procurement team to ensure timely availability of raw materials and supplies necessary for uninterrupted production.
  • Monitor and optimize production processes for efficiency, making adjustments to workflows, equipment, or staffing as needed.
  • Facilitate communication between production teams and other departments, such as sales, engineering, and quality control, to ensure product specifications and customer requirements are met.
  • Train new employees on manufacturing procedures, safety protocols, and company policies, while also providing ongoing training and support to existing staff.
  • Perform regular performance evaluations of production staff, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions or development plans.
  • Investigate and resolve any equipment malfunctions or production issues, coordinating with maintenance teams and external vendors as necessary to minimize downtime.

Manufacturing Supervisor Job Requirements

• High School Diploma preferred. Two-year college degree preferred.

• Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing/operational environment preferred.

• Practical understanding of industrial/manufacturing principles, standards, methods and practices.

• Identify and resolve operational problems using defined processes, expertise and judgement. Innovative problem-solving skills, including motivation to discover "Win-Win" outcomes whenever possible.

• Demonstrate leadership ability; sets high expectations for performance.

• Good business judgment and decision-making skills.

• Direct, candid, and mature interpersonal skills.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Trustworthy and able to influence others.

• Assertiveness in support of safety and operational requirements.
