US Smithsonian Institution is Hiring an IT Specialist (INFOSEC) Near Herndon, VA

Duties

The IT Specialist (INFOSEC) performs duties and activities necessary to protect the integrity, confidentiality and availability of the Institution's data.

In this position, you will:

Perform monitoring, research, assessment and analysis of security threats and vulnerabilities and their impact on the Smithsonian and recommend and implement security measures to address them.
    Research, implement, administer and support specialized security tools such as vulnerability scanners, forensic tools, and penetration testing tools.
    Develop specific expertise to discern patterns of complex threat actor behavior and communicate an understanding of current and developing Cyber threats. Verify vulnerabilities, correlate and collate the information; and develop comprehensive security write-ups which articulate security issues, analysis and remediation techniques.
    Investigate, track, document and report security incident information in accordance with procedures. Follow established procedures for monitoring, identifying and reporting suspected or actual security breaches.
  • Perform actions to contain incidents in progress. Perform forensic analysis to identify the source and cause for computer security incidents.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience:

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service or comparable pay band system related to the work of this position. For this position specialized experience is defined as experience serving as a senior specialist in an IT security threat analysis program for an enterprise-level organization (with a substantial number of end users). This includes experience using enterprise vulnerability assessment and configuration assessment tools across multiple versions, releases and hardware platforms.

Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to the duties this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.
