Job Description

Position: Assistant Program Director

Reporting Relationship: Reports to Program Director

Position Purpose:

Our organization prides itself on excellence, putting the education and development of our children first and foremost. The Assistant Program Director will be joining a team that is passionate about giving young children the right start to a successful future.

Position Summary:

Provide definitive assistance with the assessment & evaluation of program quality; assist in the development and implementation of an age appropriate and stimulating program to meet the physical, cognitive, social & emotional needs of each individual child in the classroom. Organize, review and present quality-centered program data, focusing on the needs of the children and team. Promotes and supports development of cohesive and positive team members on all levels.

Essential Job Functions: Quality, Safety

-Supports the Administrative Team in performing according to expectations to accomplish goals set by the organization.

-Demonstrates strong leadership and professional skills needed to build relationships with families and team members.
-Provides an educational, nurturing, and safe environment for children.

-Responsible for Operation, Incident Management and Ability to perform duties and responsibilities of the Program Director in absence of the Program Director

-Assists the Administrative Team in operating I CAN in accordance with procedures, state policies, and state licensing standards.

-Supervises, trains and oversees performance management of teachers and administrative assistant;

· Provide training and constantly monitor administrative assistant and teachers to ensure they are accurately performing assigned duties and responsibilities.

· When classroom data indicates that a child’s needs are not met, works to improve curriculum or facilitation inadequacies.

-Assist teachers in managing behavior challenges; develop an action plan when additional strategies are necessary for success in the program. Jointly develop plan with teacher and review/discuss with parents.

-Ability to assess the environment and recognize need for change, communicate strategies, and assist in developing a plan.

-Responds effectively in emergency situations and communicates with Administrative Team as appropriate regarding the care & safety of children, team members.

Leadership:

· Conduct an effective interview and provide insight on potential hires as needed

· Initiate positive counseling sessions following the disciplinary process with team members; terminate team members who have not demonstrated corrective behaviors as required

· Works to resolve issues and concerns – autonomously identifies and solves problems, self-starter, uses good judgement

· Readily shares communications from members of the team with Administrative Team to ensure atmosphere of trust and decrease conflict among team members and/or leadership

· Understands boundaries and healthy relationships with team members

· Conduct tours; provides interested families with information about I CAN program; enrolls children (i.e., converts inquiries to tours and tours to enrollments).

· Maintains professional self-image and projects I CAN values at all times

· Follows Dress Code and appropriate attire for leadership role

· Attend I Can sponsored Events as required

· Demonstrates intuition, dependability, reliability and trustworthiness

· Maintain personal leadership development & education as required; includes 16 childcare related hours annually or as indicated by licensing standards

· Plans and coordinates in-house field trips

· Assist in kitchen and direct care in classrooms if necessary

· Performs Other Duties as assigned

Communication

· Demonstrate exceptional communication skills and command of English language

· Communicate in a manner that team members and children are able to comprehend

· Engage in appropriate and effective communication with parents and others entering facility

· Display a pleasant and kind attitude

Essential Requirements:

(Age, Background, Physical, Experience, Education, Communication)

· Minimum 21 years of age; driver’s license required

· Satisfactory background check, including criminal records and child abuse registry

· Must maintain current TB test, CPR, First Aid, Daily Health Observation and the MAT certification

· Strong organizational skills, ability to organize others and contribute to fluidity of daily programming

· Must effectively interact with children, families, peers, and visitors from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds in a respectful and courteous manner.

· Must show teamwork / collaboration inspiring cooperation between self and others.

· Demonstrate attributes consistent with professionalism, integrity and work ethic

Mental and Physical Requirements:

· Must be able to lift children (up to 45lbs), bend, stoop, stretch, squat, quickly sit /stand and be physically active with children (i.e. sitting on floor, exercising, running, jumping, dancing, etc.).

· May be exposed to blood and / or bodily fluids.

· May be required to participate in cleaning routines such as wash & dry laundry items, mop floor and use a vacuum.

· Must have the ability to physically and mentally react to unexpected circumstances immediately and appropriately.

· Able to be on feet for approximately 80% of the work day and have a high energy level

Qualifications, Education and Experience:

Must have one of the following…

· Bachelor’s degree in a child care-related field & two years of paid experience working directly with a management team in a licensed childcare facility with at least one year as a Lead Teacher or Team Leader. Must provide official copy of college transcript(s).

· Associate’s degree or at least 60 credit hours in a child care-related field & three years of paid experience working directly with a management team in a licensed childcare facility with at least one year as a Lead Teacher or Team Leader. Must provide official copy of college transcript(s).

Must have all of the following…

· CPR/First Aid certification (or obtain upon hire)

· At least one year of supervision/management experience

· Able to work flexible hours between 6:30 AM and 6:00 PM to meet individual’s and program’s needs

· Maintain valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle

· Ability to travel to trainings/meetings upon request of Program Director.

· Ability to obtain Office of Background Investigations and Virginia Department of Social Services clearances and meet state licensing requirements for education, experience, and age

· Understanding of all current state and local regulations.

· Previous work experience in childcare environment.

Based on Performance and Performance Standards Score

Termination Notice/Separation:

One month notice required, two months preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
