Duties

  • Provides technical support to the safety programs of the supported parks to include inspections, evaluation, training, and representation on the parks' leadership team.
  • Provides guidance and oversight in the management of specific programs involving hazardous operations and activities conducted by NPS employees.
  • Manages documentation and records of all safety-related matters to assure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Coordinates development and implementation of safety education and training materials.
  • Develops and prepares local safety and environmental directives, manuals, and plans.

The Home of Franklin D Roosevelt - Hyde Park, NY $85,236 to 110,803 per year

Hampton National Historic Site - Towson, MD $82,764 to 107,590 per year

Monocacy National Battlefield - Frederick, MD $82,764 to 107,590 per year

The White House and President's Park - Washington, D.C. $82,764 to 107,590 per year

Appointment Information

These are term positions (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years.

Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service. The Home of Franklin D Roosevelt appointment not to exceed 2 years.

Hampton National Historic Site appointment not to exceed 2 years. Monocacy National Battlefield appointment not to exceed 4 years.

The White House and President's Park not to exceed 4 years.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required.

You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.

  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
  • You will be required to complete a one-year trial period.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 0-1 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • You may be required to complete training and obtain / maintain a government charge card with travel and / or purchase authority.
  • Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and : (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school;
  • or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education;

or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-06 / 05 / 2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month / year), and the resume must reflect full and / or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.

e., work 40 hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement :

EXPERIENCE : At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position.

  • Examples of qualifying specialized experience include duties such as : Evaluating and analyzing safety and occupational health problems, working conditions, and administrative practices affecting work operations;
  • evaluating and analyzing environmental conditions for a wide range of work operations involving a routine and non-routine safety and occupational health problems or circumstances;

and recommending improvements and / or modifications to work environments and procedures. You must include the hours worked per week.

EDUCATION : Successful completion of at least a Ph. D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field directly related to safety or occupational health such as safety, occupational health, or industrial hygiene;

or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines : safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking.

Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
