Who We Are
Join the Community Action Council of Howard County (CAC), a dedicated anti-poverty organization serving Howard County for nearly 60 years. At CAC, we employ a dynamic approach, utilizing the Two-Generation model to integrate Early Childhood Education, Food Bank, Housing Assistance and Eviction Prevention, Energy Assistance, and Weatherization services. We aim to empower families on their journey to social and economic stability, driving positive change throughout Maryland.
Who You Are
As a Community Worker at CAC, you play a pivotal role in providing direct services to families and individuals facing crisis and emergency needs. Your responsibilities include offering grants to prevent homelessness, addressing home energy needs, and assessing emergency food resources. The ideal candidate is comfortable explaining all CAC services, making referrals to other agencies, and determining grant award amounts. Strong emotional intelligence is crucial to contribute to the growth and development of CAC's scaling programs.
What You'll Do
Analyze and evaluate information to determine client eligibility for CAC's services.
Conduct client interviews (via phone, email, in-office, outreach locations, or partner agencies) to gather information on income and program eligibility.
Enter data into multiple management information systems based on the services for which the individual is applying.
Prepare case files documenting needs, proof of eligibility, and services provided to the household.
Conduct outreach activities, including distributing flyers/brochures and speaking to groups and individuals about CAC programs and services.
Attend in-service training, staff meetings, and other activities to facilitate professional development.
Provide case management to specialized housing grant recipients.
Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
Bachelor's Degree with major coursework in social or behavioral sciences, social work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
1 years of case management experience.
Valid driver's license.
Able to work in an agile and evolving work environment.
Able to work independently and collaboratively with others.
Ability to analyze, organize, and present data.
Strong computer proficiency, especially with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Teams.
(Preferred)Bilingual Spanish.
