As CAC’s Community Navigator, you are a compassionate and resourceful individual who thrives in fast-paced and sensitive environments. You are adept at building relationships, knowledgeable about community resources, and committed to helping people in need navigate CAC’s services and those in the community. You are comfortable working with diverse populations and are dedicated to promoting self-sufficiency among low-income clients.

What You'll Do

  • Community Partnership: Develop and maintain a strong network across Howard County with community and government partners to improve client outcomes
  • Client Support: Develop working relationships with clients to help them navigate Howard County's anti-poverty resources. Provide follow-up support, case management, and referrals to clients who meet eligibility criteria for CAC's programs.
  • Case Management: Conduct case management for clients, providing coaching, social support, and encouragement to help them achieve self-sufficiency based on their individual goals.
  • Outreach and Advocacy: Conduct outreach activities to raise awareness of CAC's services. Participate in local and regional coalitions, meetings, committees, and working groups to represent CAC and increase knowledge of community resources.
  • Application Assistance: Assist clients with completing the SNAP application and other related paperwork, both in the office and in the community.
  • Community Engagement: Identify and participate in outreach events, especially in underserved communities, to promote CAC's core services.
  • Data Management: Understand the importance of programmatic data tracking and reporting using various data management systems.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with CAC's policies and procedures, including maintaining confidentiality and adhering to safety protocols.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Perform other tasks as needed to support the CAC's mission and goals

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience working in a community setting with families earning a low- to moderate-income clients.
  • Two years of experience in case management
  • Strong knowledge of Social Determinants of Health, the 2-Generation/Whole Family approach, and related frameworks.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Familiarity with low-income resources, preferably within Howard County.
  • Knowledge of the cycle of poverty and the role of economic mobility in achieving self-sufficiency.
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation, as this job requires traveling to multiple locations within the community.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some weekends and evenings.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office 365 programs.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
