Disability Resource Network, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) with locations in Derby, CT and Bridgeport, CT. DRN operates DDS day programs as well as alternative education programs. DRN has a position available at our Bridgeport location for Direct Support Professionals.

A Direct Support Professional is responsible for care of individuals with intellectual disabilities. The DSP will be responsible for implementing the schedule, maintaining the individuals safety, helping the individuals navigate his/her environment, and encouraging the individuals to participate in activities. The DSP will create lessons to implement with the individuals. The DSP will maintain supervision of the individuals at all times and provide any assistance with eating, toileting, navigating their environment, etc. DSP's are responsible for implementing specific goals and objectives, logging data, and encouraging the development of social bonds and independent living skills.

The position is Monday to Friday from 8:00AM to 4:00PM for a total of 40 hours per week. All applicants must be available for the full shift.

Duties include:

• Implement daily scheduled activities for client
• Record keeping and documentation in the form of progress notes, reports, etc.
• Monitoring client interaction with other people
• Personal care assistance
• Assisting client out in the community
• Display enthusiasm and motivational energy when interacting with client
• Supervising and assisting during mealtimes
• Assistance navigating environment
• Implementing all safety protocols
• Assisting with communication needs
• Maintaining records and logs
• Transport client round trip from home to program using company provided vehicle

Requirements for Hire:

• Minimum 2 years experience working with adults with disabilities
• Minimum 2 years experience providing personal care assistance
• Valid driver's license
• Clean criminal background and motor vehicle history - all employees undergo a background check prior to hire and annually
• Minimum high school diploma/GED
• Minimum 18 years old
• Must be proficient in speaking, reading and writing in the English language
• Physical requirements: Must be able to keep up with the pace of the schedule
• Applicants should be team players who are flexible, reliable and have positive attitudes.
• DRN has mandated the COVID``19 vaccine for all staff. Applicants must either have the COVID19 vaccine or get the vaccine within 6 months of hire - barring a documented exemption.
