PURPOSE
The primary purpose of this position is to provide embedded professional development and support to instructional staff. By supporting district identified best practices and addressing areas of need at the school level, coaches provide ongoing continuous improvements to the district as a whole. Coaches will be knowledgeable in educating school staff regarding district initiatives, best instructional practices, the West Ada Instructional Model, data management and various types of specialized programs as needed. Coaches are assigned based on identified needs and coach specialization and must be trained in the District's instructional coach model. Coaches are non-evaluative roles.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The support for general education staff, includes orientation for new staff, consultation and at schools on instructional strategies, assistance in understanding the application and analysis of data to facilitate systematic improvement based on instructional need (MTSS), implementation of effective strategies in conjunction with curriculum and common core state standards, co-teaching and co-planning with teachers and other District staff in support of program development through professional development. Coaches may also serve as representatives of federal programs, English Learner (EL) programs, technology support or content support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Be a productive change agent for school improvement;
  • Provide support for the District improvement teams as a part of Continuous Improvement as requested;
  • Form supportive, collaborative and productive relationships with building teachers and administration;
  • Be a part of building and coaching collaboration;
  • Master and model effective classroom practices;
  • Become a building expert in the District's instructional model and current initiatives as assigned;
  • Lead professional development at the District level, the school level, and through embedded professional development for teachers at the classroom level;
  • Model, co-teach, and scaffold lessons across a variety of academic areas;
  • Perform non-evaluative observations and provide feedback;
  • Research and support instructional strategies;
  • Be a model for best educational practice as defined by District directives and research;
  • Support data management and interpretation in building;
  • Become an expert in various methods of compiling and utilizing data;
  • Support the use of District curriculum and standards to support instruction;
  • Provide support in specialized areas of need such as EL or Title I support or digital integration as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's Degree;
  • Valid state teacher's certificate;
  • A minimum of three years teaching experience is preferred;
  • Experience with at risk students;
  • Strong collaboration and coaching skills;
  • Effective communicator;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Must have a valid Idaho Driver's license and a vehicle to drive and/or must provide own transportation for job related activities.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal conversation and to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person;
  • Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work and assessments, prepare and review documents, and organize documents and materials;
  • Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to perform repetitive hand/wrist/arm motions and to operate a computer and office equipment, and to occasionally physically restrain a student to keep him/her from harming self or others;
  • Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, and balance, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to work in an office environment, lifting or moving objects that weigh up to 25 lbs.;
  • Job tasks require, with or without reasonable accommodation, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping;
EVALUATION
Performance of this position will be evaluated by the School Administrator in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluations.
