ECHO is hiring in our Engineering Department! The Mechanical Engineer will play a key role in the design of hand held outdoor power equipment using 3D CAD (SolidWorks) in a team environment. The ideal candidate will have product design experience using various manufacturing methods and the ability to actively participate in the new product development process. Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Create complex high quality tooling ready Solidworks or imported 3D models and 2D drawings for various manufacturing technologies including injection molding, die casting, sheet metal, electrical, and machining.
  • Ability to create and modify Solidworks surfaces and use this information to then develop solid bodies for further development.
  • Practical design knowledge of injection molding resins, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and other typical materials found in consumer products (specifically outdoor power equipment/power tools).
  • Prepare accurate tolerance stack-up analysis of assemblies, documenting the assumptions.
  • Foster a team environment both in Engineering and other cross functional areas (manufacturing, product management, procurement, etc.)
  • Bring suggestions to the department for ways to reduce non-value added activities, procedures that need change, and improvement areas that reduce errors.
  • Interact with the testing team to develop appropriate tests for product durability and performance.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced engineers and designers in best practices for product design and development.

 Job Experience/Skills: 

  • Demonstrate strong technical, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Professional experience using Solidworks 3D CAD required, 5 years experience preferred.
  • Ability to create and check 2D drawings that define the product geometry and requirements with attention to detail to prevent published errors.
  • Knowledge of tolerances for various manufacturing methods.
  • Ability to convey to vendors (written and verbally) the important features of a design and the quality expectations needed.
  • Use of measurement tools (Calipers, micrometer, gage pins, comparator, etc.) to validate design features.
  • Light fabrication skills using a variety of tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education:

  • A 4-year college degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study is required and 5 years of relevant professional experience. Ideally, this experience would include designing electro-mechanical (mechatronic) products, power tools, or lithium-ion battery powered consumer products.
