POSITION SCOPE
 The Packaging Technician operatesinstalls, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs and dismantles packaging equipment and related equipment.
 
Responsibilities/Duties
 
  • Preforms preventative maintenance work
  • Monitors equipment operations and makes adjustments and/or repairs (mechanical and/or electrical) on various types of packaging and related equipment such as but not limited to baggers, case erectors, case sealers, packers, etc. as necessary
  • Reports to Supervisor the general condition of equipment and recommends replacement when necessary
  • Installs and dismantles packaging and related equipment
  • Operates various packaging equipment
  • Responsible for machine and work area cleanliness
  • Responsible for keeping required records and documentation
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned
 
Required Skills
Ability to:
 
  • start the machine and observe the operation to detect malfunction(s) of the machine
  • troubleshoot and repair packaging machine problems with competent speed and accuracy under time and delivery pressure
  • work from electrical schematics, blueprints, drawings, sketches, layout, and other specifications both verbal and written
  • program and maintain coder systems, metal detectors, and check weighers
  • square, lace, replace, and track all types of conveyor belts
  • align, tension, and replace all types of power transmission devices (v-belts, sheaves, chain and sprockets, bearings)
  • utilize his/her tools and equipment in a safe and proficient manner
Must be able to:
 
  • work within precise limits and standards of accuracy
  • set up and operates shop tools
  • use all power and hand tools normal to the trade
  • perform simple metal work
 
Required Experience
 
  • At least two (2) years of electrical experience working with voltages up to 480 or more in a manufacturing / industrial environment
  • Must have knowledge and use of electrical test equipment
  • Must have electrical skills including the understanding and the ability to troubleshoot up to 480 volt equipment
  • Must have a working knowledge of electrical circuits and power supplies, gearboxes, motors, agitators, actuators, valves, wiring and unwiring of equipment
 
Preferred Experience
 
  • Previous Packaging Technician experience
  • Journeyperson electrician
  • PLC troubleshooting experience
  • Fanuc robotic controllers
  • Experience in hydraulic and pneumatic fields
 
 
Required Education
 
  • High school diploma or GED
 
Required Qualifications
 
  • Ability to:
    • lift up to 50lbs
    • use hands and arms to reach, push, pull, lift, carry, and manipulate materials and tools
    • walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, stoop, crawl, and climb constantly throughout the shift
    • reach, bend, twist, rotate, push and pull frequently
    • work in confined spaces
    • work independently as well as a team player
    • climb up and down ladders
  • Must be fully qualified on the operations of at least two packaging stations within 90 days from date of hire
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime
  • Must be able to perform tasks wearing required PPE such as but not limited to protective footwear, clothing, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
  • Must regard safety as a core value; Must be able to work safe and in a proficient manner
