Worcester Ophthalmology Associates is Hiring a Billing Coordinator Near Worcester, MA

Job Overview:

Basic Function: Coordinates and performs billing for a 5 MD/1 OD medical practice. Responsible for accounts receivable and related computer systems.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates billing department functions to ensure proper processing of patient billings. Oversees A/R computer billing system and reports.
  • Responsible for department filing of all claims within 1 week of services being rendered by this practice except for special services that require lab reports or other special billing procedures.
  • Responsible for department coding and charging all laser and surgical procedures.
  • Responsible for posting all money within 24 hours of receipt to this office.
  • Responsible for enforcing credit and collection policies.
  • Acts as a liaison to the rest of the office staff regarding billing and insurance functions in the office. Monitors front desk processing and advises appropriate supervisor of problem areas.
  • Coordinates efforts with surgery scheduling to inform patients about financial responsibility.
  • Responsible for maintaining cash control records and bank deposit and submitting deposit slips to practice administrator daily.
  • Responsible for implementation of our billing compliance program and maintaining the highest level of compliance to third party reimbursement standards to prevent practice liability for fraud or unethical billing practices.
  • Responsible for collection of all accounts receivable for the practice, maintaining a collection ratio of at least 95% of collectible monies.
  • Maximize reimbursement through optimum coding, recordkeeping and follow-up. Monitor reimbursement levels. Update fee schedules yearly.
  • Handle billing complaint issues from patients and insurance carriers.
  • Develop work aids to be used by all staff members to enable them to know the correct policy and procedure for working with each insurance plan with which we participate. Develop and present continuing education modules regarding billing, insurance and compliance issues for all staff.
  • Orient and train all new employees and physicians in billing and compliance issues as appropriate for their job responsibilities. Emphasis should be on understanding levels of service, correct coding and documentation and how they are used in this office.
  • Develop and present monthly report(s) to the physicians on activities pertinent to billing and collections. This should include relevant developments with insurance plans and recommendations regarding maximizing reimbursements. Run end of month reports to balance out charges and payments, cash control sheets and track A/R.
  • Stay up-to-date on coding updates and communications from payors and professional resources. Build and maintain professional relations with third party payors and use them as resources as appropriate.
  • Coordinate credentialing work with Credentialing specialist.
  • Perform other tasks as requested by the Physicians and Office Manager.

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate with some additional college level work in business, medical billing or health care administration.
  • At least three to five years’ experience in medical billing, preferably in ophthalmology. Extensive knowledge of Medicare and other third-party reimbursement procedures, ICD-9 and CPT coding.
  • Excellent organization, leadership and communication skills and clearly legible handwriting. Working knowledge of all aspects of medical office computer systems.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
