Description

JOB TITLE: Piano Instructor

Job Summary: The Piano Instructor will be responsible for developing an interest in and the ability for creative expression through music in each student. The Piano Instructor will use teaching skills, consistent with Park District guidelines, to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations to discover and develop talents in the field of music, specifically piano.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Actively support the agency’s risk management protocol that will effectively control and reduce accidents
  • Obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the Safety Committee
  • Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices or conditions to the immediate supervisor
  • Attend and participate in required safety trainings
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, based on agency needs
  • Prepare for classes by planning curriculum for each session for private piano lessons.
  • Communicate needs to Recreation Supervisor such as communications to patrons, lesson materials, facility updates, or equipment (piano) maintenance
  • Obtain updated attendance sheets at the front desk periodically as recommended by Recreation Supervisor
  • Maintain close supervision of children when assisting in programs
  • Be a positive role model for students
  • Responsible for the supervision and safety of the students at all times
  • Responsible for instructing students with enthusiasm, creativity, and sensitivity to student learning styles and abilities
  • Maintain the ability to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students
  • Demonstrate techniques in class as model for students
  • Take proper attendance and report excessive absences to the Recreation Supervisor
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings
  • Follow direction given by the Recreation Supervisor in relation to preparing for classes, securing subs, class management, and facility safety
  • Provide parents/guardians feedback regarding students’ progress and questions, or forward them to the Recreation Supervisor for further communications
  • Represent the Park District to parents, students and guests and conducts him/herself with professionalism and courtesy
  • Adhere to general rules and policies of the Park District
  • Maintain good working relationships with fellow staff members, community members, and visitors

Required Skills/Abilities (Technology, Mathematical, Language):

  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
  • Applicants should possess a love of art instruction as well as the desire to nurture and shape the lives of young students
  • Appreciation of the developmental and age characteristics of the students in each grade
  • Eagerness to communicate and develop positive bonds with parents/guardians
  • Ability to think, work and teach interdisciplinary content

Education and/or Experience:

  • Experience teaching students of all ages with a broad range of abilities and backgrounds for a minimum of three (3) years
  • Specialized in Piano instruction

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • Regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, and feel and reach with hands and arms
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk and sit, climb or balance and push/pull objects
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate

Required Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:

  • CPR/AED Certification within 6 months provided by the Park District
