Job Description: QUALITY LAB TECHNICIAN

Chance Aluminum, based in Williamsport, PA, focuses on aluminum production as the domestic supplier for AA Metals, a Florida-based master distributor with global operations in the United States, Colombia, Turkey, Germany, and China. We are a safety focused industrial manufacturing facility looking to expand our team of dedicated, goal-driven individuals.

QUALITY LAB TECHNICIAN PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION:

Purpose of the job is to perform tests on in-process and finished material samples. Advise production personnel of necessary adjustments or out-of-specification test results to ensure material conformance to customer specifications. Responsibility also includes ensuring safety, quality and productivity goals are met while minimizing downtime.

QUALITY LAB TECHNICIAN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Observe all safety rules and assist in maintaining a safe work environment

Understanding of customer requirements and knowledge of the production process

Receiving, labeling and safely storing samples, preserving the integrity of the sample, analyze by standard procedures using specialized laboratory instruments, interpret and report results

Determining and performing tests needed for analysis:

• Pinhole and Shape testing checks
• Gauge and Tensile testing
• Oil Testing
• Mullen Burst Test
• Equipment Calibration
• Final Inspection and Certificate of Analysis for customer
• Operate Dog Bone Sample equipment

Cleaning and maintaining lab equipment

Maintaining equipment records and testing results

Maintain clean and organized work environment, keeping work areas clear of trash, scrap aluminum or other debris.

Comply with all quality related policies, procedures and system requirements

Effectively follow operational job safety analysis (JSAs) on plant equipment; contribute to improvements to procedures and collaborate on new JSAs based on observations and experiences.

Effectively communicate with all levels of staff, work independently or as a team, and strive to promote a safe and efficient working environment by contributing to and participating in continuous improvement initiatives.

QUALITY LAB TECHNICIAN REQUIREMENTS:

Capability to read, write, communicate, and comprehend written and spoken instruction as well as complete accurate documentation in written or computer formats

Capability to complete basic mathematical calculations

Capability to accurately read a tape measure and perform conversions to decimals or other forms of measurement.

Industrial manufacturing experience, preferred

Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws as well as the employer’s safety policies and procedures.

QUALITY LAB TECHNICIAN PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires ability to work in a manufacturing environment. Physical conditions for positions: Sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, kneel, stoop, crouch, climb, grasp, ascend/descend stairs, maneuver within tight spaces, routinely lift up to 50 lbs. Must have visual acuity, excellent mobility, good hearing, manual dexterity, good balance, ability to work a minimum of 8 hours, and wear required personal protective equipment. All tasks performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

QUALITY LAB TECHNICIAN WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Working with and near electrical and mechanical machinery and equipment in an industrial manufacturing environment, which may include exposure to varying temperatures and noise levels, dust, dirt, fumes, welding machines, and mobile equipment. Shift work and overtime possible.
