Lowell School is Hiring a PE Teacher Near Washington, DC

Lowell School, a progressive school of approximately 330 students in NW Washington, DC, seeks a Physical Education Teacher to begin immediately. The Physical Education Teacher is a key member of the Physical Education team for both Primary and Middle School, and reports to the Primary School Director.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in physical education or a related field
  • A minimum of 2 to 5 years of teaching experience in the subject area
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the social, emotional, and academic needs of elementary and middle school-age students
  • Understanding of best practices for instructing students in physical education
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to supervise students in and out of the classroom
  • Ability to communicate in an effective, clear, and professional manner
Major Responsibilities
  • Lead and/or co-teach physical education classes for preK-8 students
  • Coach a team sport for three seasons (fall, winter, and spring)
  • Engage in curriculum development and mapping
  • Work collaboratively with the Athletic Director to support the athletic program of the school
  • Build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
  • Assess and communicate the skill development of students
  • Participation in the full life of the school
Lowell School requires all employees to be fully vaccinated unless they have a medical or religious exemption. Fully vaccinated includes boosters for which they are eligible (excluding the newest booster released in September 2023). Proof of COVID vaccinations will be needed during the onboarding process.
