Manufacturing Manager

This position is responsible for ensuring that (1) all areas comply with quality, safety, and company standards, (2) personnel are trained and competent, (3) inventory is accurate, (4) capacity and capital plans are developed and implemented to meet business needs, and (5) production schedules, new product introductions, and R&D prototypes are achieved. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing daily operations of the PCBA production area, including production leaders, operators, technicians, and engineers.
  • Planning and allocating manufacturing and testing resources to meet production schedules, utilizing capacity tools to proactively plan for labor and equipment requirements.
  • Optimizing production processes for cost-effectiveness, quality, and timely delivery.
  • Developing and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production efficiency, yield, and cycle time.
  • Providing technical guidance to production staff, troubleshooting issues, and resolving challenges.
  • Collaborating with R&D and Engineering teams to ensure smooth transitions from prototype to production.
  • Supporting quick-turn products by coordinating resources and prioritizing tasks.
  • Ensuring adherence to quality standards, including Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles, training, calibration, preventive maintenance, and process documentation.
  • Implementing corrective actions based on feedback from quality control and customer returns.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and reliability.
  • Fostering a positive work environment, encouraging collaboration, and promoting professional growth.
  • Conducting performance evaluations, providing coaching, and addressing performance issues.
  • Collaborating with supply chain and procurement teams to manage component availability and mitigate end-of-life (EOL) issues.
  • Participating in new product development/transfer meetings to ensure proper planning for prototype, pilot, and production requirements.
  • Developing and managing key strategies/programs to drive continuous improvements in defined areas of responsibility, providing guidance and support to staff as needed.
  • Ensuring the accuracy and condition of point-of-use inventory, resolving inaccuracies by researching root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Responding to CAPAs generated from internal and external audits.
  • Administering and enforcing company policies, resolving related issues.
  • Ensuring a safe, accident-free work environment by creating and enforcing safe work practices.
  • Developing and administering departmental pay plans and budgets.

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of SMT processes, equipment, and industry best practices.
  • Working knowledge of basic printed circuit board design and concepts.
  • Familiarity with GMP and ISO requirements; FDA requirements are a plus.
  • Understanding of inventory control practices and manufacturing planning.
  • Knowledge of electrical testing of printed circuit boards, component programming, and testing of electrical assemblies.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to motivate and lead team members.
  • High energy and action-oriented; self-motivated.
  • Proficiency in DFM principles and experience working closely with design teams.
  • Strong sense of urgency and proactive approach to problem-solving and manufacturing challenges.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication across all organizational levels.
  • Good problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Capable conflict management skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite.

Education/Experience:

  • BS/BA degree in a technical or business discipline.
  • Over 5 years of management experience with SMT printed circuit board assemblies and BGA technology in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, preferably in a low-volume, high-mix environment with significant R&D interaction.
  • Experience in medical device manufacturing is a plus.
  • Practical experience with basic electrical testing of printed circuit boards and electrical assemblies
