Howard University Public Charter Middle School of Mathematics and Science is Hiring a Middle School Math Teacher Near Washington, WA
To plan, organize, and implement an appropriate mathematics instructional program in a technology-based learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
Responsibilities
- Create a classroom culture of high achievement and student ownership of their learning that helps foster students' intellectual, social and emotional development.
- Provide daily instruction, including clear learning outcomes, well-designed lessons and high-quality assessments that align to (MS)2's curriculum and standards.
- Incorporate into lessons creative, hands-on learning experiences that broaden students' exposure and interests, help foster student ingenuity and require application of knowledge and skills acquired through daily instruction.
- Provide a classroom environment that is visually appealing, rich with resources aligned to curriculum and standards and honors student's achievement with current and accurate displays of exemplary student work.
- Communicate to students to understand their talents, interests and needs and to convey learning expectations and their progress toward meeting those expectations.
- Communicate regularly with families to identify students' talents, interests and needs and update parents regarding students' achievements and progress.
- Collaborate with school-based staff and throughout the (MS)2 community in staff meetings, regular analysis sessions and professional learning designed to enhance students' learning experience and increase student achievement.
- Bachelor's degree in mathematics or directly related field from an accredited university
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated mastery of middle-grade mathematics content
- One year of teaching experience in an urban school setting preferred
- Proven results demonstrating high student achievement and significant growth in mathematics
- Experience in teaching Algebra, and pre-algebra
- Master's degree in mathematics
- Successful completion of the Praxis II Exam
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and/or continuing education
- Two years of teaching experience and results demonstrating high student achievement and significant growth
- Knowledge of relevant technology, or ability to be trained to efficiently use technology.
- Current authorization to work in the United States.
