Trinity Employment Specialists is Hiring a Veterinary Assistant Near Tulsa, OK

Job Title: Veterinary Assistant

Full-Time | 3-4 days per week | 10-12 hour shifts

Tulsa, OK | $16-$17 per hour

Job Summary:

The Veterinary Assistant is a critical member of the veterinary healthcare team, providing support to veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing high-quality care to animals. The Veterinary Assistant assists with various tasks such as patient handling, laboratory procedures, animal husbandry, and administrative duties to ensure smooth and efficient operations of the veterinary clinic or hospital.

Responsibilities:

  1. Animal Care and Handling: Assist with restraining and handling animals during examinations, treatments, and procedures in a compassionate and professional manner. Ensure the comfort and safety of animals at all times.
  2. Laboratory Procedures: Prepare and process laboratory samples, such as blood, urine, and fecal samples, as directed by the veterinarian or veterinary technician. Maintain accurate records of laboratory results.
  3. Medical Equipment Operation: Clean, sterilize, and maintain veterinary equipment, instruments, and exam rooms to ensure they are in proper working condition. Set up and assist with various medical procedures and treatments.
  4. Patient Monitoring: Monitor patients during and after procedures for vital signs, behavioral changes, and adverse reactions. Report any abnormalities or concerns to the veterinarian or veterinary technician promptly.
  5. Animal Husbandry: Provide basic care for hospitalized animals, including feeding, grooming, bathing, and administering medications as directed by the veterinarian or veterinary technician. Clean and maintain animal enclosures and hospital areas.
  6. Client Communication: Assist with client communication and education, including scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, providing information on medications and treatments, and ensuring clients understand post-treatment care instructions.
  7. Inventory Management: Assist with inventory management, including ordering, stocking, and organizing supplies and medications. Keep track of expiration dates and dispose of expired items properly.
  8. Administrative Duties: Perform administrative tasks, such as maintaining medical records, billing, and filing. Provide clerical support to the veterinary team as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working in a veterinary clinic or animal-related field is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of animal care and handling techniques.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients and team members.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Basic computer skills for administrative tasks.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and work with animals of various sizes and temperaments.
  • Provide veterinarians with the correct equipment or instruments, as needed.
  • Observe the behavior and condition of animals and monitor their clinical symptoms.
  • Take animals into treatment areas and assist with physical examinations by performing such duties as obtaining temperature, pulse, or respiration data.
  • Bathe animals, clip nails or claws, and brush or cut animals' hair.
