TUCSON HEBREW ACADEMY is Hiring an Exceptional Education Teacher Near Tucson, AZ

This position teaches remedial and enrichment classes to students who have been diagnosed with a learning difference, who have qualified as gifted, or who have demonstrated different needs in the general classroom setting. This position also supports teachers in the general classroom setting.

Position Responsibilities

· Model the mission, philosophy, and goals of Tucson Hebrew Academy to all staff, parents, students, and the community.

· Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures to maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to the academic and social growth of the students.

· Uphold professional obligations that include but are not limited to assigned duties, meetings, parent conferences, in-service training, and school events.

· Observe and evaluate students' academic performance, behavior, and social development.

· Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.

· Instruct students individually and in groups.

· Teach remedial classes on an as-needed basis.

· Plan and conduct lessons that are data-driven and demonstrate a balanced approach of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, investigate, and collaborate.

· Maintain records of student work and development.

· Meet with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to resolve students' behavioral and/or academic problems.

· Communicate respectfully, effectively, and consistently with an individual student’s parents and/or guardian on an as-needed basis.

· Prepare and implement remedial programs for students who require extra help.

· Prepare and implement enrichment opportunities for students who require challenges and extensions.

· Enforce administration policies and rules.

· Use computers, audiovisuals, and other equipment and materials to enhance instruction.

· Attend professional development, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.

· Maintain an organized and inviting classroom.

· Administer standardized test and interpret results to determine student strengths and areas of need.

· Provide student support in all subjects and classrooms.

· Perform other duties as assigned by Principal or the Head of School.

Qualifications and Competencies

· Bachelor's degree in special education or a related field and a teaching certificate or credential or equivalent professional experience which would translate to successful classroom teaching. Advanced degree preferred but not required.

· Possess a deep understanding of curriculum, standards, and expectations for grades kindergarten-8th grade in the areas of Social Studies, Language Arts, Math, and Science.

· Possess an understanding of childhood development.

· Possess an understanding of pedagogical approaches, curricular alignment, and instructional strategies.

· Understand learning differences and demonstrate the ability to differentiate instruction in the classroom based on those needs.

· Analytical approach to curriculum, instructional methods, and students.

· Compassion for students, parents, and colleagues.

· Contribute to a positive faculty culture by building collaborative and respectful relationships with colleagues and support fellow teachers and administrators.

· Maintain professional standards of appearance, courtesy, responsiveness, discretion, punctuality, and attendance and always demonstrate a high standard of personal character and conduct.

· Consistently plan and prepare instruction that is specifically adapted to the instructional needs of each student in Exceptional Education.

· Maintain academic and behavioral standards and expectations for all students.

· Strong interpersonal skills that allow for the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively and respectfully with students, parents, teachers, and administrators.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Background check and fingerprint card required.

Work Environment

This job operates in a school environment, utilizing both a classroom and an office setting depending on the work to be done. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The position is responsible for the day-to-day teaching environment of students, including maintaining their reasonable safety. Occasional field trips may take the staff member outside of the normal classroom/school campus environment.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit at a desk; type and use a computer; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Occasional travel by bus may be required when accompanying students on a field trip. This job may occasionally require lifting or moving items weighing 20 pounds or less from one location to another.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is an exempt position. This position regularly requires the employee to be in attendance at school from 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. In addition, the employee will be required to attend staff development sessions from 3:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays. Attendance may also be required for THA events taking place outside of normal school hours.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day.
