This position is for an ambitious lawyer seeking to expand their professional development and to have significant courtroom experience and client contact, while working in a collaborative, client-focused environment. Duties include all aspects of litigation management, including:

  • Performing legal research
  • Drafting motions and pleadings, as well as other legal memoranda

  • Taking and defending depositions
  • Managing discovery-related activities and investigations
  • Preparing cases for trial
  • Drafting position statements, employee handbooks, employee policies, etc.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor. Qualified candidates must be licensed to practice law and in good standing in Michigan (or licensed in a reciprocal jurisdiction and able to quickly become licensed in Michigan). They must meet requirements for continuing licensure for law practice throughout employment.
  • As the firm represents some of the most innovative companies in the world, possessing an undergraduate degree in a STEM field is not required but considered a plus.
  • Candidates should possess 6 years of litigation experience.
  • Candidates should have excellent analytical and writing skills; strong organizational skills; ability to multi-task; and a passion for client service and practice development.
  • Prior experience with routine court appearances (scheduling conferences and discovery motions) is required;
  • Prior experience with high-level substantive appearances (dispositive motions, depositions, trial, and mediation) is highly desired.
  • Excellent academics (e.g., top 25% of law school class) are expected.
  • Willingness to travel. Although we are based in Michigan, our national litigation practice routinely represents clients in disputes all across the country.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: employment law, commercial law, shareholder disputes, and intellectual property law. Qualified candidates should possess an interest in honing their skillsets in all the above areas of law.
