JOB TITLE: Data Systems Specialist
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

POSITION OBJECTIVES: The Data Systems Administrator is responsible for managing and
supporting all network data systems in the administrative operations of the district. Develops,
implements, and evaluates a long-range plan for the application of data systems in all districts
instructional and administrative programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.
? Interacts with Central Office Administrators to assist with data analysis needs such as, but not
limited to future project planning, enrollment projections, policy, governance, and ad-hoc data
analysis.
? Ensures data compliance requirements by maintaining documentation and developing appropriate
protocols and procedures. Supports district data systems and database applications.
? Verifies district compliance with required AOE data collections.
? Maintains data integrity of information within district data systems, inclusive of, but not limited
to, the following software management systems:
o Student Information System
o Food & Nutrition Database
o Library/Media Software
o Special Education Database
o Longitudinal Data System
o Assessment Portals (NWEA MAP, SBAC, VT Science Assessment, etc.)
o Mass notification system
o Learning Management and Content Delivery Systems
o Annual State and Federal Level Reports (SECT, Census, CRDC, CIRS, CFP, CIP Data,
etc.)
? Schedules, coordinates, and implements data integrations across district data systems.
? Creates documentation for the appropriate use of all data systems.
? Identifies critical data system projects and prioritizes all outstanding requests.
? Recommends changes to improve district operational efficiency. Maintains a comprehensive
schedule of work to be done on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis.
? Provides leadership toward district technology data initiatives including related purchases and
planning. Reviews all district database software requests and recommends appropriate purchases.
Establishes and maintains a process to monitor and keep district individuals informed of evolving
technologies, implications, and costs.
? Serves as Project Manager, including the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of all
data and data related contracted services.
? Applies an understanding of Query Languages including SQL; also HTML, object reports, and
coding.
? Supports the Project Manager to leading and coordinating school registrar group meetings and
provides overall leadership to the school administrative assistant staff and provides training on
relevant district data programs as needed.

? Remains current on assigned subject matter. Attends and participates in all district technology-
based meetings and in external training as needed or requested.
? Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Supervision is received by central office administration.
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated, at least annually, by the Superintendent with input
from Central Office Administrators according to the stated performance objectives and the qualities and
characteristics contained on the evaluation form.
COMPENSATION: TBD based on experience and credentials.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No formal supervisory duties.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each

? Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Data Management or related field
required. Three or more years of experience with data management and computers preferred.
Knowledge of VBA, and Macros preferred. An in-depth knowledge and experience of MS
SQL (specifically MS-SQL server and T SQL), MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, MS
Word, and MS Publisher, and data analysis. Must demonstrate a high aptitude for technology
systems management in a multi-site, team-oriented environment. The ability to work in a
collaborative team environment is essential to the employee's successful job performance.
? Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: MCTS, MCDBA, MCSE, RHCE, or equivalent
licensures/experience preferred.
? Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals,
professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write
reports, business correspondence, student performance data summaries, and procedure
manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of
administrators and the general public.
? Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and
statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability
to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
? Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid
conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical
or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
? Other Skills and Abilities: Computer experience (PC, Mac, and file server system
management). Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the
school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely, both in oral and written
communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and
School Board policies.
? Communication & Interpersonal Skills. Ability to communicate courteously, efficiently and
effectively with a variety of individuals, including students, faculty and staff, administrators,
parents, and other school visitors. Ability to work cooperatively, collaboratively and effectively
with peers, supervisors, and school administrators. Ability to effectively resolve conflicts.
