DEPARTMENT: Integrated Health

SCHEDULE: Full Time / Hybrid with onsite requirements

$1,500 Hiring Bonus

AGENCY BACKGROUND:

MercyFirst is a not-for-profit human and social service agency that has been serving children and families in need since we were founded by the Sisters of Mercy/Hermanas de las Misericordia in 1894. Today our agency continues to address the emotional and physical needs of children and families in Brooklyn, Queens and across Long Island through innovative treatments and life-changing interventions. We provide community-based prevention and family foster care services, group homes in the community for struggling children and families within the child welfare and juvenile justice systems, and short-term residential services for unaccompanied migrant children. Each year, MercyFirst serves more than 3,000 children, teenagers and families overcome enormous obstacles, re-imagine their futures and develop their full potential.PROGRAM BACKGROUND:

The Medical Department provides medical and nursing services to children that have been placed in MercyFirst care. Children placed in care are more likely than not to be exposed to adverse childhood experiences that increases the likelihood of medical conditions. The Medical Department takes a strength-based, trauma-informed, child-centered approach to medical and nursing services.

SUMMARY:

The Medical Director is responsible for the administration of the medical and health services provided for children in all MercyFirst programs. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • NYS Licensure as Physician, Physician’s Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner. DEA License. Board Certified in pediatrics and/or adolescent medicine strongly preferred. Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
  • 5 years medical provider experience with children and/or adolescents. 3 years relevant administrative and supervisory experience preferred.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for clients.
  • Plan, organize and direct nursing and physician functions.
  • Conduct medical evaluations or see to the timely evaluation of youth and provide opinions on diagnoses and indications for medical treatment.
  • Provide ongoing medication management.
  • Provide consultation to treatment teams and provide medical treatment input into treatment planning.
  • Prepare medical progress notes and progress notes on all interventions.
  • Record medication and laboratory orders and follow up medication reviews.
  • Report behaviors believed to be symptomatic, emotional, physical, or psychological disturbances.
  • De-escalate emotional and/or physical outbursts through the use of therapeutic crisis intervention.
  • Understand and apply knowledge of child and adolescent development.
  • Participate in ongoing internal and external committees and provide medical input.
  • Participate as member of Sr Staff and Management Team
  • Represent MercyFirst at local, regional, state or federal stakeholder meetings.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries.
  • Follow all of MercyFirst’s established policies and procedures.
  • Understanding and willingness to commit to the Agency’s Mission, core values, Sanctuary commitments, and DEIB principles.

Salary Range:
$165,000 - $185,000 per year
Hiring bonus of $1,500 after 500 worked hours
