SUMMARY: Ensures all budgets are maintained and expenditures are tracked, trains school and department personnel in the budget process and ensures that budget capacities are not exceeded.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists school and budget personnel in the preparation, coding and processing of budget transactions.
  • Analyzes and monitors monthly school and department budgeting and accounting reports to maintain expenditure controls and ensure budgets are not exceeded.
  • Utilizes computer software programs to customize data, track expenditures, and ensure accurate budget information.
  • Provide training and support to school and department personnel on the use of the district accounting system software.
  • Train school and department personnel in budget issues to allow them to manage their budget and utilize all allocated resources efficiently.
  • Prepares regular and special budget reports
  • Provide budgetary information requested by external agencies. 
  • Provides leadership to the budget staff by training, mentoring, collaborating, providing productive feedback, and facilitating problem solving.
  • Establishes and maintains good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Associates degree in accounting, finance, economics or related field preferred.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC)

EXPERIENCE:

  • Three (3) years experience in school finance or related field.
  • Fund accounting and working knowledge of budgets preferred.
  • Public school accounting preferred.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Competency in computer literacy, Word and Excel
  • School finance software; School ERP Pro (Visions) preferred. 

ABILITIES:

  • Ability to develop accounting procedures.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines with an accurate attention to detail while working with frequent interruptions and minimum supervision.
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Apply mathematical concepts such as percentages, fractions, and ratios to practical situations.
  • Compute percentages and draw/interpret bar graphs.
  • Apply reason to research and solve complex issues with little or no assistance.
  • Read, interpret and analyze general business documents, government regulations, and technical procedures.
  • Create and write reports, create presentations and training materials.
  • Speak to large and small groups and respond to questions from customers, employees and community members.
  • Communicate effectively (verbal and written) and establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with district and school personnel of all levels, general public and outside agencies.

ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. 

Working Conditions

Work is routinely performed in an indoor, office environment.
