The Village at Penn State, located in State College, PA, is one of the area’s premier independent living communities, has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Maintenance Mechanic position. Schedule DetailsFull Time7:00am - 7:00pmWorks every other weekend as a part of the regular scheduleJob Responsibilities:Identify and correct building and equipment problems by performing carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, and HVAC work to maintain buildings and equipment in safe condition, and prevent failures that would cause reduction in service using hand, power, and specialty tools.Repair, replace, update, modify, construct, fabricate, install, and maintain building structures, systems, and equipment. Inspect facilities, equipment (e.g., fire safety, generators, compressors, etc.), systems (e.g., electrical, plumbing, power sources, etc.), and work of vendors to determine condition of facilities, safe operation of equipment, quality and safety of work, and scheduled maintenance. Document work and purchase orders, bids, and material lists to account for materials purchased and time spent in completing work assigned. Order and stock building supplies, materials, and parts to replace materials consumed and ensure their availability for assigned projects, scheduled maintenance, and emergency responses. Recommend building modifications to improve or alter existing facilities by inspecting and evaluating conditions, recommending appropriate changes, and providing the supervisor with a report of alternatives to meet building codes. May be required to respond to 24-hour emergency calls for assigned work area to perform emergency building or equipment repairs during off-duty hours. Oversee vendors and contractors to determine that work is correctly performed and completed in a timely manner as requested. Train co-workers to perform preventive maintenance and repair work on equipment, and produce monthly reports using technical manuals as requested. Perform general maintenance work (e.g., trim trees in parking lots, sweep floors, hang pictures, etc.) to maintain a clean, safe work area for employees using appropriate tools and materials. Requirements Requires three (3) years as a Facilities Maintenance Worker and possession of journey-level certification in area of assignment (or demonstrated journey-level proficiency); or six (6) years of commercial or institutional experience in the identified primary field (e.g., electrical, HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, etc.) in an additional building maintenance field; or Education or technical training in a field related to building maintenance through a recognized trade union, technical school or equivalent, accredited college or university may substitute for up to two (2) years of the required experience.
