City of Blue Springs is Hiring an Aqua Fitness Instructor Near Springs, MO

JOB SUMMARY STATEMENT: Provide water aerobics instruction, monitor, and educate patrons on fitness and safety, and maintain a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for class participants.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Supervision of all facility areas. Enforces facility policies and procedures.

2. Communicating with other facility staff about the need for additional assistance or equipment in an emergency.

3. Report suspicious activities to supervisors.

4. Enforcing rules and regulations of the facility and educating and informing patrons of the rules and regulations of the pool as necessary.

5. Provide a safe, clean, and organized environment for patrons.

6. Attend regular meetings and training sessions.

7. In case of an emergency, notify the appropriate agency as dictated by the emergency.

8. Teaches fitness classes based on set class schedules; provides adequate warm-up, stretches, and cool-down time.

9. Instruct participants on effective workout methods; explain proper techniques, demonstrate exercises; identify different muscle groups, and teach appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles.

10. Prepares appropriate routines, equipment, music, handouts, etc. for class.

11. Assists participants, answers questions, and maintains a positive exercise experience for members and class participants.

12. Build relationships with participants and have a positive presence with instructors and members

13. Keeps supervisor informed of customer and facility needs.

14. Ensures that safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are adhered to.

15. Effective communication skills with the public, supervisors, and co-workers.

16. Completes proper documentation, including class attendance sheets and timesheets.

17. Ensure class space and equipment's proper upkeep, appearance, and functions.

18. Follows protocols for opening and closing of the facility.

19. Perform other related duties as requested or assigned by the Manager of Aquatics or Recreation Programmer -Aquatics.

The above duties and responsibilities include those tasks, physical and mental requirements, visual requirements, unique physical surroundings and mental/cognitive abilities required to perform the essential elements of the position.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Education and Special License(s)/Certifications All candidates must possess the certifications below, or have the ability to obtain them before beginning employment.

a) Certification in NCCA accredited or similar group fitness certification with experience and/or specialty certification.

b) CPR and First Aid certifications.

c) Successful completion of a pre-employment in-water practical skills test.

2. Experience – Prior experience in the area of group fitness training in a public setting is preferred.

3. Skills – Skill in effective verbal and written communication; skill in effectively administrating City and Department policies and procedures. Maintain positive relationships with members and patrons. Strong interpersonal communication skills for interacting with patrons. Knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, and equipment when appropriate. Ability to make sound decisions and use good judgment; ability to prepare appropriate plans for classes. Communicate effectively with participants.

4. Mental Requirements – Ability to make sound decisions and use good judgment. Communicate effectively with patrons. Ability to respond and act in an emergency.

5. Physical Requirements – Must be able to stand for prolonged periods; must be able to walk frequently; must be able to use hands and fingers to operate, handle, and use general office equipment. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds. Basic swimming ability including treading water for a period of time is required. Most work is performed in various aquatic and recreational settings where noise levels are frequently moderate to loud.
