Ministry Function:

The Barista supports the ministry of Convoy of Hope (COH) through the important function of providing excellence in service to all team members and guests of the Hope Supply Co. Coffee Shop & Store. This individual should have exceptional social skills & maintain a professional and positive manner. This includes detailed knowledge of the Hope Supply Co. Coffee Shop drink procedure/menu and food items as well as day to day operations of the store, and POS system. The barista will always maintain the standards for COH’s Guest of Honor principle.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Operate espresso/brewing machines, POS System, and other equipment professionally.
2. Craft and deliver a variety of quality beverages consistently, i.e. espresso drinks, blended drinks, teas and baked goods according to shop standards.
3. Prepare and serve food and drinks to quality standards of the shop and health department.
4. Assist customers in the selection and purchase of retail and menu offerings by learning and being knowledgeable of all menu items and product to clearly communicate offerings.
5. Provide exceptional, friendly customer service to all team members and guests based on COH’s Guest of Honor principle.
6. Responsible for handling monetary transactions: Must be able to accurately conduct sale transactions and maintain a balanced sales drawer.
7. Maintain a professional, clean, and safe environment by cleaning and sanitizing all equipment, utensils, dishes, and work and service areas based on Public Health standards.
8. Ensures proper functioning of all equipment, checking temperatures in all equipment as required.
9. Stocks supplies and take inventory to provide list of needed items to Hospitality & Guest Relations Director.
10. All other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. High School diploma or equivalent required.
2. 1 years experience as a barista required.
3. Excellent social, verbal, written and organizational skills.
4. Exudes a positive attitude, honesty, integrity, and friendly demeanor.
5. Must have or obtain “ServSafe Food Handler” certification within 90 days of employment – following all safe food handling procedures and sanitation practices.
6. Cultivate a sense of family by fostering customer relationships by knowing name, and ability to recall preferences of frequent customers.
7. Ability to serve customers quickly, efficiently, and kindly.
8. Stand for extended periods of time, bending, stooping, and ability to lift/move up to 30 lbs.
9. Serve as an advocate for the ministry, striving to nurture, broaden and develop financial and other resource opportunities to support and expand organizational and program ministry.
10. Ability to positively represent the ministry of Convoy of Hope, including its mission statement and core values, to all outside constituencies.
11. As a Christian organization, Convoy of Hope believes it is critical that each staff member embraces the organization's religious purposes for which it exists and not only agrees with its Statement of Faith but demonstrates it in their lives on an ongoing basis.
