We are looking for a PACU RN for our DENTAL Ambulatory Surgery Center. The candidate must be able to work as a team member, be friendly and courteous in all situations, have excellent oral and written communication skills and must assume leadership, responsibility and accountability for designated patients in the recovery unit.

In this position you will:

  • Work in a one bed PACU unit for a one bed ASC. Avg 5-7 cases per day.
  • Monitor patient vital signs, adapting readily to changing situations.
  • Provide for patient safety throughout the PACU experience.
  • Evaluate patient’s post-op including monitoring
  • Work with an amazing team!

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Washington.
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS).
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Experience acquired from Accredited Registered School of Nursing.
  • Experience in Ambulatory Surgery Facility, helpful but no required.
  • Working knowledge of ventilators, cardiac monitors, defibrillators and other related medical devices.
  • Adequate knowledge to perform assessments, plan patient care, provide direct care and educate and orient families and team
  • Skilled to work with a wide range of staff as part of an interdisciplinary team including dentists, CRNA's, assistants, and ancillary staff.
  • Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English, other languages helpful, but not required.
  • Ability to complete mathematical calculation (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, equivalencies).
  • Knowledge of human growth and development to modify services to the age and development stage of the patient.
  • Ability to start/place peripheral intravenous catheters.
  • The applicant must be able to communicate effectively and have the ability to work compatibly with all dentists, CRNA's and team.
  • The preferred applicant will possess strong organizational skills and a clear understanding of the importance of efficiency and cost effectiveness in an ambulatory surgery center.
  • The applicant needs to have the knowledge and clinical skills to perform the job duties of a Recovery Room nurse. Must be able to make quick assessments of patients and be able to handle emergency situations appropriately.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with all members of the health care team to provide optimal care to the patient throughout their surgical experience.
  • Maintain a friendly, positive and caring attitude with all patient, dentists, CRNA's and team.
  • Assist in patient education during all phases of their experience.
  • Assist in assuring that equipment is functioning properly.
  • Monitor use of and charge for all supplies used. Assist with inventory control by proper count of supplies/time used.
  • Document appropriately the care that is given to the patient.
  • Continue education to meet state requirements and keep current with health care.
  • Display professionalism at work and in the community as a representative of the facility.
  • Take an active role on committees within the department.
  • Review patient charts for surgery clearance
  • Identifies actual and potential risk to patients and others and takes action to minimize or eliminate risk and maximize safety.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Prepare for arrival of patients to the surgery center by making sure that proper supplies and equipment are available.
  • Review patient charts for health history and to assure that the necessary pre-operative evaluations have been completed.
  • Call to request H&P's for all patients & follow-up with clearing patient before scheduling.
  • Complete telehealth post op visits
  • Complete assessment of patient and administer necessary medications as ordered.
  • Communicate with other health care team members to assure continuity of care.
  • Receive patient into the recovery room after surgery. Assess and evaluate the patient. Monitor the patient continuously during their recovery phase. Documents the status of the patient and administer care accordingly.
  • Incorporate a sense of wellness by allowing the patient's family to be reunited with them as soon as feasible and encouraging self-care by the patient.
  • Provide discharge instructions to the patient and their caregiver, asking for confirmation of understanding throughout the giving of instructions.
  • The RN in the Recovery Room will provide follow up assessment for the patient by calling the patients the day after surgery.
  • Is prepared for emergency situations by knowing correct procedures and locations of emergency call system.
  • Monitors that Universal Precautions are maintained.
  • Will complete all necessary documentation on Recovery Room nurses' record.
  • Order and maintain supply of drugs.
  • Wipe down gurneys and wheel chairs between patients with a germicidal solution. Remake beds as needed.

HOURS:

  • Full Time; 36-40 hours per week
  • NO WEEKENDS!
  • 7:15 am - 5:15 am Tuesday-Thursday
  • 7:15 am - 4:15 pm Fridays
  • 7:15 am - 4:15 pm 1 or 2 Mondays per month
  • Minimum 30 minute lunch breaks

SALARY:

  • Competitive Salary depends on experience
