Schedule: FT / 10-month position (HS)
Pay Range: $15.00 an hour
Position Statement
This position assists the Lead Teacher in providing a successful, safe and supervised educational setting for children enrolled in SRCAA Head Start/EHS programs. Actively supports school readiness goals in the five essential domains (social-emotional, cognitive development, language/literacy, perceptual motor and physical development, and approaches to learning skills) and assists in the development of individual goals and ongoing assessment. Supports Lead Teacher in facilitating kindergarten transition, as well as parent /family/ community engagement in all aspects of the program.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists the Lead Teacher in facilitating center/classroom activities - including daily activities, field trips, and selecting and arranging equipment and materials for the learning environment.
  • With in-put and direction from the Lead Teacher, implements a developmentally appropriate, multi-cultural curriculum for children.
  • Works cooperatively with support staff in the provision of direct services to meet the goals for children with disabilities.
  • Performs duties in accordance with CLASS and School Readiness goals and requirements.
  • Participates daily in team planning of curriculum with lead teacher, using and encouraging appropriate input from parents.
  • Supports and enforces federal, state, and local health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Supports the Lead Teacher to ensure that the learning environment supports the development of all children’s social-emotional, cognitive, language/literacy and physical development (making use of translators when necessary).
  • Responsible for assisting Lead Teacher with planning and implementing plans for individual children, small groups, and large groups
  • Maintains active supervision at all times by providing and maintaining a safe, healthy learning environment.
  • Assists in directing classroom activities and maintaining discipline in an appropriate manner.
  • Encourages all children to participate fully in all activities at all levels of interest and ability.
  • Supports the development of relationships between children and their families.
  • Oversees maintenance, upkeep, and inventory of classroom supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Assumes the responsibilities of the Lead Teacher in their absence, as assigned.
  • Assist Lead Teacher with conducting two home visits and two parent/teacher conferences
  • Willingness and ability to assist and support center operations as deemed necessary by program management. (Examples include, but are not limited to: classroom coverage, bus monitor, substitute bus driver, nutrition assistance).
Knowledge, Skills,& Abilities
  • Principles of early childhood development and the learning process.
  • Basic computer skills and some experience with computer applications, (includes; Microsoft Office; Word, Excel and Power Point).
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of Child Plus is required within 12 months of hire.
  • Must obtain a First Aid and Infant/Child CPR card within 90 days of hiring and keep current.
  • Competence in planning, organizing, scheduling, recordkeeping, and staff and parent communications.
  • 8. Ability to relate effectively with children, families, community members, and staff of diverse backgrounds.
  • 9. Interest and ability to advocate with and on behalf of low-income, diverse families.
  • 10. Work cooperatively with parents and staff.
  • Comprehend and make inferences from written materials.
  • Communicate by telephone or in person in a one-to-one or group setting.
  • Produce documents written in the English language with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Must have access to a personal vehicle with insurance coverage (unless the agency provides a vehicle) and have a valid North Carolina State driver’s license.
Qualifications
Minimum: Child Development Associate credential or an Associate Degree in Psychology, special education, social services, early childhood education, or a related field. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
Preferred: Birth to Kindergarten Degree or an equivalent four-year degree and a minimum of two years’ experience teaching preschool
