Spartanburg Methodist College is Hiring an IT Support Specialist II Near Spartanburg, SC

All employees of Spartanburg Methodist College are entrusted with assisting the College to achieve its vision and mission. Customer focus, college service, and a willingness to assist as needed are expectations of all employees.Job Summary: The IT Support Specialist II will provide advanced technical support to students, faculty, staff, and administration by responding to issues that arrive at the service desk via support tickets, phone calls, emails and walk-ins.
Working Conditions: The work is performed in the IT Service Desk but will require going to different areas across campus to support end-users and is the first point of contact for the IT department. Standard working hours for this position are Monday – Thursday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Friday 8:00 am to 1:00 pm with adjustments made based on after-hours events.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
  • Deliver a superior level of advanced customer support by understanding and anticipating customer needs, ensuring their concerns and inquiries are met with empathy, professionalism, and efficiency.
  • Proactively manage and assign IT support tickets to the appropriate support team or individual within specified timelines, ensuring a seamless workflow and timely resolution of IT issues.
  • Document all customer interactions, issues, and resolutions within our ticketing system to ensure a transparent and comprehensive history of customer support activities, facilitating better future support and service continuity.
  • Actively monitor and manage inventory levels of IT equipment and supplies, including printer management employing a systematic approach to ensure availability meets ongoing and projected needs. This responsibility includes providing regular inventory updates and forecasting future needs based on current trends and anticipated requirements.
  • Address and resolve compatibility and connectivity issues between desktop computers and AV/IT equipment, ensuring a smooth integration of software and hardware for optimal performance in academic and event settings. This includes configuring computer settings, updating drivers, and providing guidance on best practices for using computers with AV technology.
  • Installs and configures new computers and other IT equipment as well as repairing and upgrading different types of computers (software and hardware.)
  • Provide comprehensive software and technology training to faculty, staff, and students.
Other Important Functions:
  • Assist with creating and editing documentation in IT Services.
  • Regularly follow-up with customers, ensuring their issues have been satisfactorily resolved or further action is taken to address their needs, thereby reinforcing a commitment to exceptional customer service and customer satisfaction.
  • Proactively stay informed about the latest developments in technology relevant to academic context. This includes participating in professional development opportunities, engaging with industry trends, and applying this knowledge to enhance the campus's hardware capabilities, ensuring cutting-edge technology solutions are leveraged to their fullest potential.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard free desk space including the service desk and related storage areas when necessary.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Information Technology Services and Operations.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
  • This position requires attention to detail and very good organization and time management.
  • Must have self-awareness to be able to prioritize tasks and appropriately escalate issues to teammates so that the technician can continue assisting other customers.
  • Experience with supporting and troubleshooting Windows 11, Mac, Chrome OS, desktops, and laptops along with peripherals for those devices.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory and managing user lockouts and password resets.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively via Microsoft Teams, Email, and Telephone with various personality types and levels of understanding.
  • A positive attitude is required.
  • Customer service is of utmost importance. We treat each student, faculty, staff and community member with respect and compassion.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, stand and move around the campus.
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
  • Manual and physical dexterity and visual acuity are needed to operate a computer keyboard and handle paper documents.
  • Sufficient near vision acuity to read information appearing on a computer display screen, in hand-written form, and printed on paper.
  • Adequate hearing and verbal abilities to communicate effectively in person and remotely.
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a technology related field or equitable experience working in the technology field will be considered. A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a higher education technical support role is highly desired.
