Spartanburg, SC
Operates under general supervision of the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration. Is responsible for the financial management of student accounts, cash management, financial aid distributions, security of funds and revenue accountability in compliance with federal and state regulations and according to accounting standards and University policies. Provides a reporting system to control and manage revenue activities which includes tuition and fee collections in excess of $40 million. Develops and implement, as approved, operating procedure and strategic initiatives. The USC Upstate Bursar is responsible for providing excellent customer service to students, parents, faculty, and staff in matters regarding payments and collections.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 5 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience. A successful background check is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in a Bursar’s Office or other experience in a University setting, particularly in finance or accounting is preferred. Experience with the Ellucian Banner system or enterprise resources system preferred. Master’s degree is preferred. Experience with Enterprise Information Systems technologies (Banner, PeopleSoft etc.) in the billing and collection of student tuition and fees (real student accounts).
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Experienced supervisor able to maximize the strengths of staff members and help the department deliver excellent customer service. Collaborative team member with the University Budget Director, the Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment services, the Director of Financial Aid and the Registrar. A team builder and will demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills by communicating with various constituencies. Ability to plan organize, review and supervise the work of subordinates. Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators and others. Employee will be computer proficient in Microsoft Office applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. Ability to effectively collaborate with other University offices involved with the Bursar’s functions. Ability to effectively manage office activity during peak periods of student registration and fee payment.
