Job description
The Oaks Behavioral Health is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to assist in our Psychiatric Rehabilitation Day Program for Adults with severe mental illness. Willing to train and pay for certification for the right individual! Potential to get paid time and a half on certain days without working overtime! Get paid time off for major holidays! This program provides individual/group therapies and skill building activities geared toward helping members meet personal goals while attaining a higher level of functioning within the community.
We are seeking an individual who has personally experienced and recovered from a mental health condition or has experience with a family member who suffers/has suffered from a mental health condition. This individual should be highly motivated and extremely passionate about helping others on their recovery journey!
Responsibilities include:
Assist with maintaining safety of therapeutic environment by monitoring client behaviors & using verbal de-escalation techniques with clients in conflict and/or crisis.
Assist in monitoring and redirecting negative behaviors of any clients during group activities to help the presenter and other group members remain focused.
Assist assigned behavioral health clients in defining and progressing toward self-defined recovery goals.
Provide individual and group activities for behavioral health clients utilizing an Evidenced-Based Practices approach.
Ensure that defined clinical documents are completed and updated in cooperation with the behavioral health clients and according to program procedures.
Assist in all aspects of recovery and wellness program as directed by the Program Director.
Facilitate/Lead skills training & rehabilitation group activities as assigned.
Assist persons in recovery to become familiar with and utilize existing community resources to achieve recovery goals.
Participate in all team meetings and complete all mandated trainings by assigned deadlines.
Other responsibilities as assigned by the TRP Director and/or Executive Director.
IDEAL CANDIDATE:
We are seeking a highly motivated, detail oriented, self-starter with strong communication skills, a high level of emotional intelligence, ability to remain calm in stressful situations, and excellent ability to work in a team environment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Past experience with overcoming a mental health condition, or experience with a family member having a mental health condition.
Will be required to complete Peer Support Specialist training within 3 months of hire.
Experience:
Working in psychiatric rehabilitation or with behavioral health population (preferred)
May also consider experience working with individuals who receive services for treatment of a substance abuse, intellectual disability, or physical health condition
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to communicate with verbal and nonverbal individuals of varying intellectual abilities
Teaching skills
Ability to provide nurturing attention and care to individuals with disabilities
Patience and empathy
Maturity and good judgment
Ability to use technology (computer, electronic health records program, Google Workspace apps including email, drive, and docs, etc).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS
Position involves some physical exertion, occasionally lifting/carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds
Ability to maintain physical safety of clients, staff, and self during times of client conflict/crisis
Ability to perform general cleaning of group therapy areas and weekly program shopping tasks
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Education:
High School Diploma/GED may be considered if experience level is sufficient
Must have or be willing to obtain (company will cover the cost) Adult Peer Support Specialist Certification within 90 days of hire

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
