The Infection Preventionist assists with the administration of the Infection Prevention policies, procedures and programs. The Infection Preventionist carries out responsibilities in some of the following functional areas: (1) Identification of hospital associated infections; (2) Analyzing infection data and trends; (3) Reporting infection data through required databases; (4) Coordinating prevention and containment efforts and providing staff education related to the risks of potential of disease causing organisms.
Qualifications 1. RN with certification in Infection Prevention preferred 2. RN with current Tennessee licensure 3. 1-3 years experience in medical/surgical clinical setting 4. Technical skills: Improvement methodology skills, systems understanding, facilitation and teaching skills, computer, written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, organized and detailed
General Essential Functions: 1. Identify and classify hospital-associated infections, using CDC criteria for CMC Tower, Women’s and Childrens’ Hospital, Parthenon Pavilion, Sarah Cannon, Centennial Medical Center at Ashland City and Spring Hill Emergency Department 2. Analyze Infection Prevention data for risk and outbreak/cluster conditions. 3. Provide reports to nurse managers including HAI numbers and rates as appropriate. 4. Identify and report communicable diseases to Federal, State and local public health authorities in accordance with laws and regulations. 5. Provide ongoing education to staff on Infection Prevention policies and procedures. 6. Coordinate pertinent Infection Prevention issues with Employee Health and Risk Management. 7. Participate in Infection Prevention Committee meetings and PI initiatives. 8. Provide ongoing supervision of the practice of Infection Prevention precautions for all hospital staff and consultation to all hospital areas in matters related to Infection Prevention. 9. Collaborate with receiving and/or transferring facilities regarding the presence of infection not known at time of transfer and referral, inclusive of infections noted post discharge from another facility. 10. Compile and report Infection Prevention data to corporate, TriStar division and NHSN via appropriate databases. 11. Assist in coordinating prevention and containment efforts for potential infections, pandemics and bioterrorist events. 12. Attend regional APIC meetings and other educational forums related to Infection Prevention topics. 13. Deliver educational presentations for new employee and nursing orientation related to Infection Prevention issues.
