Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will work with the executive management to ensure the Company’s accounting and financial processes meet established standards. This individual will promote accurate financial reporting and ensure effective internal controls. The Assistant Controller will review the Company’s accounting information, identify unusual or illogical trends and balances, and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances. While the Assistant Controller will be involved in all aspects of the Accounting Department, this position will have specific responsibility for the function of accounts payable and the financial operations of multiple retail locations.

Additionally, the company manufactures a wide variety of pet and large animal food. A professional company with a family feel, the Assistant Controller will have exposure to senior leadership and mentorship from a Controller that has been with the Company since early 2018.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Oversee and provide support when needed for the accounting management of the Company (billing, receivables, payables, tax forms, reporting, asset management, etc.)
• Supervise accounting staff to assure successful completion of departmental objectives
• Assist in the preparation of financial statements in compliance with official guidelines and requirements
• Manage journal entries, invoices, etc. and reconcile accounts for monthly, quarterly, and annual closings
• Participate in preparation for the annual audit
• Develop reports for management or regulatory bodies
• Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices
• Function successfully and efficiently within an ERP application to facilitate processes and maintain records
• Act in a self-directed manner to identify issues and make recommendations to department leadership
• Handle confidential information and material with the highest degree of professional responsibility
• Interface with diverse personalities and effectively communicate with all levels within the organization
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
• 5 years of experience in Accounting
• Solid knowledge of GAAP and regulations
• Working knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel) and accounting software
• Strong Communication Skills; written and verbal
• Must be authorized to work in the United States

Compensation:

• Market rate for Assistant Controllers

Other Information:

• Shawnee Milling Company requires all accounting employees to work onsite. Typical workdays are 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday
