Position Summary:Under the general supervision of the Head Coach (HC) and assigned athletic administrator, the assistant head coach is accountable for assisting with coaching and instruction duties related to the women’s softball program. The assistant head coach will aid in managing the resources provided by the University which support the essential components of the program and is actively involved in fundraising for program enhancements. This individual must abide by the rules and regulations established by Concordia University, Nebraska (CUNE), the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), and the NAIA by performing the following duties.
This position will also support the Athletic Department with additional athletic department duties and may be called upon to teach activity courses relevant to his/her program.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provides leadership in the development of the program to achieve the objectives consistent with the strategic direction of the Athletic Department.
  • Adheres to the policies, procedures, and processes set forth by CUNE officials.
  • Responsible for creating an environment that is consistent with the values of the University and the Athletic Department and for fostering student-athlete development.
  • Identifies potential student-athletes for the softball program in accordance with CUNE, GPAC, and NAIA regulations, guidelines, and standards.
  • Assists in coaching all sports practices throughout the season, as well as administering and readily providing attendance records at all practices.
  • Adhere to and support the HC in monitoring and reinforcing all CUNE, GPAC, and NAIA by-laws and regulations.
  • Actively participate in implementing and/or designing a retention plan as determined by the HC of the respective athletic program
  • Assist with team schedules, team travel arrangements, evaluating talent of prospective and returning student-athletes, promoting and marketing the assigned athletic program, scouting opponents, and fund-raising upon the direction of the HC.
  • Foster, assist, and lead interactions that inspire spiritual and character development through one-on-one student and staff relations and build a cohesive and positive team culture here at CUNE.
  • Assists with the preparation and maintenance of playing fields.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in sports related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience directly related to the essential functions.
  • 2-5 years of experience as an assistant coach in Higher Ed or high school head coach preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of CUNE, GPAC, and NAIA rules in the specialty area.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn and utilize other software applications as necessary; experience with SCT Banner software preferred.
  • Proficiency in the sport.
  • Ability to lead and guide NAIA student-athletes in area of specialty.
  • Ability to drive a 12-passenger van.
  • Member of an LCMS congregation preferred.
