U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is Hiring a PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST Near Seattle, WA

Duties

  • Reviews and analyzes district programs and policies for their relationship to public opinion.
  • Advises key staff elements of public affairs implications of events, programs and activities and of developing trends on controversial issues raised by the news media or public.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness and efficiency of internal information, news media relations and community relations programs in achieving greater understanding of the District's mission and programs.
  • Analyzes information needs of the public and of special interest and demographic groups and develops effective methods of meeting those needs.
  • Participates in key meetings and counsels in dealing with news media representatives, congressional staffers, and the public, and establishes and maintains liaison with media representatives and others in the community.
  • Develops public affairs plans for specific issues or projects, addressing the needs of the target audience, most appropriate communication techniques, and recommended approaches.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in ALL of the following areas: (1) managing web and social media platforms (2) establishing and maintaining liaisons with various levels of media, (3) preparing news releases, professional photography, web products, talking points, and/or other materials to educate the general public AND (4) Advising key staff on public affairs implications on controversial issues raised by the news media or public.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
