Planned Parenthood
Join us in the fight for commonsense policies that foster the sexual and reproductive health and rights of individuals, families, and communities.
Why Planned Parenthood?
Working at Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest, Hawai’i, Alaska, Indiana and Kentucky is more than a job. It provides the opportunity to contribute to our powerful mission and perform meaningful work.
As an organization, we are focused on equity, diversity, and inclusion. Specifically, we recognize that profound racism impacts the education, health, and well-being of people in our communities, and we are actively working to address all forms of oppression. We believe our employees should reflect the diversity of the populations we serve, including racial and ethnic diversity.
People of color are strongly urged to apply.
About this position:
The Voter Engagement Specialist (VES) will spend approximately 12 weeks at 15 hours per week building grassroots support for reproductive health and rights through voter education and grassroots organizing. The VES will learn and apply community organizing tactics that lead to social change, such as engaging supporters and volunteers to conduct voter education online via zoom, door-to-door, over the phone, and through outreach at summer community events. The VES will work under the supervision of the State Field Manager, with additional guidance from their local PPAA Field Organizer and State Director.
The starting salary for this role is $20 per hour. This is a temporary position.
What’s in it for you:
The Voter Engagement Specialist will receive training and on-the-ground experience in public education and constituent mobilization. Former VES candidates who participated in Planned Parenthood’s organizing programs were able to gain the skills to work for political campaigns and well-respected progressive non-profit organizations. In addition to being a significant leadership development opportunity, the VES is a paid position.
Qualifications:
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Commitment and desire to educate and mobilize individuals around issues of reproductive health and rights
  • Willing to cold-call, approach, and speak to strangers on behalf of Planned
Parenthood and the work we do
  • Team player and good independent worker
  • Well-organized and self-motivated
  • Proficient in Google Suite
  • Access to reliable personal transportation is a necessity
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time is a necessity.
  • May require lifting up to 50 lbs.
Commitment:
This position is located in Western Washington, with preference given to East King, Snohomish and Clark County. The position is 15 hours per week for approximately 12 weeks, including several nights and weekends. We are specifically looking for candidates who are available throughout the month of July during the weekends. Access to a cell phone, laptop/computer and reliable transportation are needed. Gas/travel reimbursement will be provided for transportation when traveling outside of the Planned Parenthood office. 50-75% of this position can be done remotely.
Proof of completed COVID-19 Vaccinations and Flu is required prior to starting employment with PPGNHAIK. If selected as the final candidate for this role, you will be required to provide proof of receiving both a current flu vaccination and two doses of the COVID vaccine. Our commitment to justice and diversity also means providing a work environment that is welcoming, respectful and engaging.
Racism deeply impacts the health and wellbeing of our communities, compounding existing disparities and creating intersectional barriers. We strive to name and address these barriers through community engagement and assessment, relevant and effective policy creation, and organizational accountability methods. We support initiatives that address all forms of oppression, however, maintaining an explicit focus on race is essential to advancing equity across our communities. Improving outcomes for people of color will improve outcomes for everyone.
