SUMMARY Assists QA Manager in supervision and coordination of activities of personnel engaged in performing chemical and physical tests required for quality control of processes and products by performing the following duties. Assures consistent quality of production by developing and enforcing good manufacturing practices (GMP) systems; validating processes; providing documentation; managing staff.

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Training of new QA personnel is an essential part of this job. Normal work schedule will be M-F 7:00AM- 3:30PM. The Assistant QA Manager must be able to work flexible hours, which will include some weekend, evening and night work. Will be required to alternate weekly on-call with the QA Manager.
The Assistant QA Manager will direct, develop, and supervise staff and work to assure reliable, timely, accurate and consistent laboratory results. They will ensure that existing and new laboratory procedures are approved, performed correctly and reported properly; affecting improvements, and insuring quality of apparatus, equipment and materials. They will also ensure the maintenance and calibrations are performed according to equipment standards.
Working knowledge of statistical analysis methods used for setting validation acceptance criteria and release specifications.
General experience and knowledge of laboratory licensing, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.
Responsible for achieving AOCS Certified Laboratory status.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree and three or more years related experience.
At least 3 years' experience in a lead/supervisor/manager role including employee scheduling, technical procedure writing, performance appraisals, performance improvement planning and quality assurance projects.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyses, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Wastewater Laboratory Analyst Training and Certification with the State of Georgia may be required to be completed at a later date.
