LSF is looking for a talented Janitor who would like to make an impact in the lives of others.

Purpose & Impact :

Performs cleaning and maintenance activities, including dusting, mopping, finishing, and buffing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, cleaning and restocking restrooms.

Ensures that the facility is clean, safe, and functional.

Essential Functions :

• Cleans the facility on a daily basis and ensures that assigned areas are clean and free of hazards. Cleans classrooms, hallways, floors, rooms, bathrooms, offices, entrances, etc.
• Performs routine maintenance of building and grounds during program breaks and more often as needed.
• Reports safety, sanitation, and fire hazards to supervisor and / or staff person in charge of facilities.
• Performs outdoor tasks such as sweeping steps, porches, and drives, maintaining parking lot, mowing lawns, trimming shrubs and trees, raking gravel or leaves, clearing parking areas, etc.
• Maintains cooperative relationships with Center staff and Operations staff.
• Attends safety and operational training as directed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Functions :

• Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
• Develop and maintain effective communication and working relationships with staff, co-workers, physicians, and youth.
• Provides support and empathy to youth.
• Learn shelter policies, procedures and guidelines.
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills; preferably bilingual in Spanish.
• Ability to work with a team.
• Must complete the Dream Center orientation and all required background checks.

Physical Requirements :

• Must be able to lift at least 45 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be made for otherwise qualified persons with disabilities.
• Must have the ability to remain in standing position for extended periods of the workday

Education :

High school diploma or G.E.D.

Experience :

This is entry-level position. Some experience in cleaning and maintaining childcare or educational facilities preferred.

Skills :

• Ability to understand verbal instructions.
• Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
• Ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment.
• Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
• Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
• Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.

• Ability to understand written and verbal communications.

Must demonstrate sensitivity to our service populations cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and needs.
