Hiring/Budgeted Salary or Hourly Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $83,000-$89,000/yr.
Full Salary Range: The full salary range for this position is $65,165.80-$122,905.00/yr. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.

Brief Summary Of Job Duties: Monitors and maintains the campus wide Energy Management System to ensure the system's daily operation and reliability. Supports technicians to troubleshoot building systems. Interfaces with customers to ascertain the status of environmental conditions and custom data interface tools. Provides secure access to researchers, building MSO's and Department Chairs for monitoring critical system or building environment real-time conditions. Evaluates Energy Management System hardware and software to ensure the system is up-to-date with all security functions and to ensure all field components are operational and reliable. Supports divisional and campus goals for energy conservation and decarbonization through optimization of building system schedules, setpoints, and enhanced monitoring and metering capabilities.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree- in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 1-3 years- field experience and thorough understanding of design, installation, energy engineering and maintenance of Energy Management Systems.
  • Must have a broad understanding of HVAC and mechanical equipment as well as the ability to troubleshoot and evaluate each system's operating efficiency.
  • Possess a thorough working knowledge of energy management strategies and building control schemes.
  • The candidate should be able to demonstrate an increasing level of job responsibilities including project management.
  • Should possess effective communication skills with the ability to present information to Senior Management and building customers.
  • The candidate should have experience working in facilities operations in a university, or like setting.

  • May required evening and weekend hours to meet the operational needs of the department.

Job Functions And Percentages Of Time: 55%- Energy EngineeringSupports all issues related to Energy Management, Metering and Utility Database Systems. Performs daily operation and maintenance of these systems, including hardware and software components. Provides support for commissioning testing, measurement & verification and system acceptance on all retrofitted and upgraded building management systems on campus. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of all aspects of Energy Management Systems, including software, hardware, monitored devices and sensors, in order to be able to assess cost impacts, reliability, and maintainability. Provides support to FM Trades in troubleshooting, identifying and correcting building system operational issues. Provides training to FM Trades staff for Energy Management System interface modifications and upgrades. Coordinates with maintenance contractors to inspect monitoring and metering system design and makes suggestions and corrections when needed as well as evaluates newly constructed systems to ensure all documentation, new software revisions, graphics, databases and as-built drawings are complete. Works with Facilities Management Information Technology unit to design and maintain the constantly expanding campus Energy Management network infrastructure. Implements a maintenance program and schedule that assures the proper operation of all campus Energy Management System components.
30%- Campus SupportSupports commissioning services for all new and existing building Energy Management systems for Design & Construction Services and Facilities Management. Provides direction and recommendations to Design & Construction Services Project Managers and consultants to ensure that proper design is incorporated into construction projects during design development, construction and post-occupancy phases. Provides secure Energy Management System access to researchers, Building MSO's and Department Chairs for monitoring critical system or building environment real-time conditions. Implements campus electrical Demand Response Program to ensure contracted grid response targets are met.
15%- Energy ConservationAssists in the implementation of programs designed to optimize energy usage on campus and in support of UCSB's decarbonization targets.
