Job Summary:The Environmental Engineer will ensure compliance with local, County, State and Federal environmental laws associated with our mining quarries and concrete batch plant facilities located in Texas. Additional functions will include being part of the Health & Safety team and support of safety compliance.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Manage environmental risks.
  • Develop site specific plans related to management of air permits, stormwater plans, handling of chemicals, management of wastes, and environmental records.
  • Participate in the creation of environmental policies and procedures.
  • Preparation / development and tracking of compliance documentation for reporting to government agencies and internal management.
  • Preparation of applications and obtaining of environmental permits.
  • Development of compliance plans, preparation of training materials and training of operations staff.
  • Conduct environmental audits of operational sites to ensure compliance with all environmental regulations and permit requirements.
  • Participate in facility design and turnover of projects from construction to operational status.
  • Generate SWPPP plans and ensure plan compliance at all sites.
  • Perform air emission observations including method 22 and method 9 observations at operating sites.
  • Perform operational site review and collection of environmental samples as necessary.
  • Generate environmental presentations, coordinate training events and conduct environmental training.
  • Participate in management of safety compliance and fill in for Director of EHS when needed
  • Perform any other tasks and duties as requested, directed, or assigned to support and improve the overall team operations.
Qualifications:
  • Experience working with STEERS, and Texas Department of Environmental Quality permitting process.
  • Experience with developing required Federal and State of Texas Environmental Permits for air, waste, storm water and wastewater.
  • Experience with environmental compliance and support.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable environmental regulations.
  • Experience in environmental inspections, familiarization with pollution control devices and stormwater best practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite including WORD, EXCELL, POWERPOINT and advanced computer literacy in word processing, spread sheets, databases, and presentation software.
  • Strong time management, organization, and communication skills; detail-oriented
  • Ability to establish priorities and solve a wide range of business, operational, and strategic management problems.
  • Able to multitask effectively.
  • Be able to work with technology and learn various software systems quickly.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work as a team member with flexibility to respond to changing work priorities and handle numerous projects at the same time.
  • Ability to speak, write, and follow instructions and read the English language.
  • Ability to demonstrate moral character, honesty, tact, fairness, patience, lack of prejudice and desire to help when dealing with people of varying social, cultural, and economic backgrounds; creates and promotes a harmonious work environment.
  • Ability to perform in a professional appearance and manner.
  • Able to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with people.

Education and Experience:
  • Prior experience in mining or ready mix highly desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science with 5 years environmental work in the State of Texas.
  • Preferred, bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, environmental engineering, civil engineering from an ABET approved engineering school with 1-3 years progressive environmental work experience preferably in the State of Texas.

  • Must be able to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally.

  • Must be able to properly wear and use personal protective equipment.
  • Must be able to exercise common sense in the operation and safety of all equipment, machinery and vehicles; to work under pressure to solve problems, meet deadlines in performing work in a timely fashion and make decisions regarding maintenance and servicing of equipment and machinery; to recognize unusual situations deviating from prescribed routine and take appropriate action; to work as part of a team, as well as to complete assigned tasks independently with little direct supervision.
Work Environment:
  • Location of position: Corporate Headquarters
  • Local Travel Required
  • Background checks and drug tests required.
  • Work will generally be 60% office and 40 % in field at operation sites.
  • May be exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, odors, fumes, and oils.
  • May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule.
  • May work outside for extended periods of time.
