Job Summary: The Staff Accountant will support our financial team by managing daily accounting tasks with a focus on Accounts Payable. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in accounting principles and able to work comfortably with numbers and meticulous attention to detail. 

Responsibilities: 

Invoice Processing 

  • Process, verify, and reconcile invoices. 
  • Compare invoices and purchase orders with goods or services received. 
  • Ensure accurate and timely handling of all invoices. 

Payment Processing 

  • Ensure timely payment of all vendor invoices and expense vouchers. 
  • Maintain accurate records and control reports for all payments. 

Vendor Relations 

  • Manage communications with vendors to resolve invoice discrepancies. 
  • Address and respond to vendor queries regarding billing. 

Account Reconciliation 

  • Perform monthly reconciliations of accounts payable transactions. 
  • Ensure all payments are accounted for and properly posted. 

Financial Reporting 

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. 
  • Maintain accounts payable reports, spreadsheets, and corporate accounts payable files. 

Audit Support 

  • Provide necessary documentation and support during audits. 
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and policies. 

Expense Control 

  • Monitor expenditures and implement cost-saving measures. 
  • Evaluate and improve purchasing and payment processes. 

Tax Compliance 

  • Assist with the preparation of tax computations and returns. 
  • Ensure compliance with applicable tax requirements. 

Budgeting Support 

  • Provide accounts payable data for budget preparation. 
  • Work closely with the budgeting team to ensure accurate financial planning. 

Financial Software and Systems 

  • Utilize financial software including OCR for accounts payable management and reporting. 
  • Maintain vendor information in the accounting system. 

Month & Year End 

  • Assist the accounting team with month end and year end tasks – ie, journal entries, GL review, financial statement review, reconciliations, and others. 
  • Participate in meetings and analysis with department leaders to discuss periodic results and findings. 

General 

  • Assist with ad hoc tasks and projects as needed. 
  • Represent the accounting team with good stewardship - embrace teamwork and collaboration with all OFC departments. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field. 
  • Proven experience as a staff accountant for at least 2 years, preferably with an emphasis on accounts payable. 
  • Strong understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices. 
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office and familiarity with relevant accounting software. 
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
