What You Will Do :
We are currently searching for a Scientist (Chemist) to independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), Therapeutics Development Branch (TDB). This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Rockville, MD.
  • Perform synthetic route scouting.
  • Perform bulk-synthesis, purification, and formulation efforts for advanced testing in animal models.
  • Maintain up-to-date electronic laboratory notebook detailing all experiments and associated online databases.
  • Gather, analyze and interpret data; prepare summaries and reports.
  • Search chemical databases for journal articles, patents and related technologies.
  • Troubleshoot issues, maintain, and train users on scientific instrumentation and equipment.
  • Prepare reagents and maintain an active inventory of all chemicals kept in the laboratory. Purify compounds by preparative chromatography from chemists.
  • Perform chemical and biochemical reactions and appropriate analytical analyses, including chemical synthesis and optimization of small molecules probes and organic synthesis of key materials such as reference compounds).
  • Analyze samples using validated analytical methods for ongoing studies.
  • Formulate chemistry plans for the development of soluble, potent, selective small molecule probes of biological function.
  • Develop and make recommendations on experimental procedures and research protocols including novel chemistry methodologies and technologies that advance the field and develop plans for novel syntheses and approaches to new compounds.
  • Collaborate with staff to evaluate and/or develop new techniques.

What You Will Need :
  • Master's degree
  • A minimum of One (1) year of experience in a chemistry laboratory
  • Must be familiar with common techniques such as: Microscopy (ex: Confocal, Electron, Multi Photon, Fluorescence, or Super Resolution Nuclear Magnetic Resonance), Mass Spectrometry, Spectrophotometry, Chromatography technologies (HPLC, UPLC, IC, or thin-layer) X-Ray crystallography, )R Thermal analytical technologies
  • MS Office suite
What Would Be Nice To Have :
  • Preferred to have a background with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)
  • Manuscript writing preferred
  • Experience with Kilo Lab or pilot plant desired
